This section of the M1 drops down a gentle hill (there's a crawler lane on the opposite southbound carriageway), and for a long time there was a problem with water flooding across the carriageway. This section has, I understand, just had major works to improve drainage, doubtless at considerable cost.
Well it was a complete waste of money. This morning there was a full river crossing the carriageway. This caused at least one car (BMW 1-series) to aquaplane, hit the barrier and then hit other cars, etc., causing the road to be shut for 1.5 hours. Muggins here was sat in the queue, trying to top my high score on the phone's computer game (engine off ).
I hope no-one was hurt.
But I also hope that next time Highways Agency carry out some improvement works, they actually design a scheme that works!
