Now have a S212 350 PETROL! . Did have 1992 W124 300E Ford Escort 1300E(now sold!)
I am looking for some advise re the cold start my E300 with the M103 engine.
It takes a couple of seconds for the oil pressure to rise. This is more noticiable the longer is has stood.Once it is started it is fine even if left for a couple of hours or switched off and restarted straight away from cold.

I have been told that the OM filter from Mercedes is now smaller than they used to be and therfore not holding as much oil as the previous larger filter. FI do know that when I worked for VW their filter had a non return valve in to help on start up do the Merc filters have this?

My question is is this right and is there a Mercedes alternative filter which is larger than the very small one I have fitted.

I dont know if they are now smaller, but the genuine filters do have the non return valve inside.

It's perfectly normal for the gauge to take a few seconds to rise from cold.

But if you really want one, you can get the bigger filters from places like Euro Car Parts and from ebay. The last one I got was a MANN filter from ebay seller Aceparts.

The oil filter that the dealers supply is blue and smaller than the old Mann sized oil filters. My indie pal, ex-M-B dealer trained mechanic told me that when he worked at the dealership, cars used to come from the factory with the smaller blue filters. At the first service (up to 1k miles) they used to throw the blue one away and only fit the larger black filters - available as stated above from ECP/GSF and branded Mann.

Thanks for the advice. I have sourced a MANN filter which seems to be both longer so it holds more oil and has two non return vales. I will report back once I have fitted it.
