Wanted: M103 water pump: part number 103 200 3701

For 1989 W201 2.6 auto

W124 M103 3.0 engine may well use the same part.

Please PM me if you happen to have one tucked away.

Thanks

Steve

£70.00 inc delivery new.

It's a component you want to replace with new imho. They all wear out eventually- seal or bearing or both. Franey usually sells febi-bilstein which are a good quality aftermarket make.

Just replaced mine on the 190E 2.6 last week. Got an ECP water pump figuring it'll outlast the car.

One of the few times MB's design has disappointed me. I reckon if they'd moved the top rear bolt position back about 2" so you could reach it without having to remove half the stuff mounted to the engine it would be a doddle. As it is it's a PITA.

Learn from me, remove slam panel, the rad, fan & any other bloody thing that's in the way. MUCH quicker in the long run.

Thanks for the replies.

Been there , done it , agree .

As I recollect mine cost me £86 ( once I had the surcharge refunded on return of my old unit ) from Glen Henderson's in Ayr , who had a NOS one on the shelf and discounted it from something like £140 .

I forgot to mention (must have blocked it out of my memory it was such a bitch to do) but when you have every ancillary bit out of the way the hardest thing of the lot to do is to free the heater pipes that go into & come out of the pump. On my car they stick into the water pump about a half inch or so & were absolutely rock solid & impossible to move. They were so impossible to move we considered buying new pipes & fitting them into the existing pipework.

In the end we had to take a cold chisel to the old pump once it was out of the car & literally break it away, bit by bit, from the area around where the pipes enter the pump. Quite satisfying but there must be a better way & if anyone knows what it is I'd be in your debt if you'd tell me.

Purchased one from ECP, so no longer need one. Thanks again for the replies and advice.

Neil & pontoneer,

The new KVP pump arrived today, minus any gaskets/seals. Haynes manual recommends new seals when re-fitting. Did you renew the gaskets and seals when you did this job? If so, did you get them from the M-B dealership? Don't suppose you kept a note of part numbers for these by any chance?

Thanks, your advice is much appreciated.

The ECP water pump I got (the cheaper of the two available) was by Circoli & came with three O rings.

Naturally, I needed 4. They only supplied one for the accursed heater pipes mentioned in Post 7 & 2 were needed. Miraculously, the local MB dealer stocked them at about a quid each.

I don't have the part numbers & TBH I don't think it would do you any good. There seem to be 2 or 3 different water pumps. Best thing is to call the dealer with your VIN & just buy whatever rings / seals you need from them. They're cheap & it'll save a lot of faffing around.

Thanks Neil, much appreciate your advice, will phone the dealer today and order the seals.
