M104 E320 engine in a W114 Coupe. Pictures

Interesting. We looked at this in my W114 but concluded possibly too many issues.

Plenty of W124 estate petrol engines around!

Indeed! If you can source an early model (mine is -93) they also have under-piston oil squirters.

People in the know say that Mercedes policy was to make the first versions of a model to high specs and then reduce the features in later models for cost saving purposes ;)

I did not face any particular issues above the ones you usually have when swapping in a computer controlled EFI engine to oldskool chassis. Or some mechanical, like length of the propshaft, exhaust manifold/downpipe routing, gas pedal, length of gear levers etc.

Mine was a non-ASR, non-immobiliser and 5 speed manual which makes things a bit more easy.

The only thing I struggled the most with was the vehicle speed signal to ECU. It origins from ABS and is needed to pass the rev limiter of 4000rpm's when standstill. I realised it only goes for auto's.

Also, understanding the HFM-injection where you cannot adjust the idle. Another ECU box does that.

My first thought on encountering this thread yesterday - It can be done!
Second thought - where was this thread when it was needed? (LHD though so not strictly comparable and steering / exhaust clearance would have to be resolved from scratch).

Thanks hismajestics - and impressive work.
BTW - Firehawks don't last long. Michelin PSs are worth the extra money in that regard.

Attn. moderator: can this thread be moved to MB Clubs projects to be continued with other mods than just engine?
