Got caught yesterday doing 70+mph in a 50mph

O.K. - I was speeding, therefore it's my fault ............ but what a place for a speed trap!

For anyone who knows the area, I was heading north up the M11 and taking the direct feed onto the A120 East bound.

The feed over the M11 junction onto the A120 is 2 lanes up over the M11, which then has a further lane join it (3lane wide) as it heads East toward Braintree. The speed limit drops from 70mph to 50mph round the bend and a a few hundred yards onto the straight before returning to 70mph.

The police were parked up on the left in the tree's which bound the airport runway and were using a laser gun targeted on the exit of the corner.

Unlucky the police are crafty I admit in that area - its no A14 (where you know where they are usually). The Stansted area (entire A120 stretch to the roundabout at Braintree?) has been a hotspot for policemen from my experience for ages.. I *almost* got caught at 4am on a Stansted run for an early flight for work about 3 months ago. The road is too nice there especially in the Braintree->Stansted direction, so easy to speed without realising it.

Yikes. I went thru there at about 8pm last night - snowy ! What time was it ?

I go through there quite often. Did they stop you straight away?

Thanks for the tip off, I have to shortly go and visit the outlaws weather permitting, most folks whip round that 50mph stretch at the wrong speed. Essex police are also very into nicking folks for speeding.

Yep, know it well, i go through that stretch every night from work to Braintree at about 2.00am, nearly caught me once but saw them just in time. I agree its a sneaky place to get you.

Yes I have seen the police there with speed guns. It feels very slow doing 50 there.

Also several times I have seen police with mobile cameras on the m11 a few junctions south on one of the overhead bridges.

i know that bit of road very well , essex police are bloody awful for speed cameras , they even have an old transit with yellow light on the roof and a ladder they sit over the m11 bridges with a camera in it , another trick they use is 2 police motorcycles parked about a mile apart , the second has a camera and is usually parked under trees or just off a bend so you don't see it , apart from north wales police with their camera horse box essex are abou the sneakiest , suffolk has an unmarked honda fireblade too round newmarket area

They are often between J6 (M25) and J7 (Harlow) on the bridge but at least you can see them from quite a distance away.
