Here's even more confusion, i put my reg in and it all came back with 10-40, same 112 engine and some listed as semi synthetic.

What is the required spec for your car? It should be stated in the handbook.
I honestly am not sure. I'm at work at the moment so I'll have to check that when I get home. All I know though from looking at previous service records, is that from new, the previous owner mostly had Mobil 1 super synthetic 5w-40 oil put in. It also says vastly online that you can use mobil 1 0w-40 fully synthetic for this car as well. I'm guessing either one of those would be fine if that's what's been used since 2004?

This is what I mean.. I don't get it. Some websites say I can use some oils and others say I can't 🤯. I'm only 20 years old so I do drive an odd car for someone my age, this is too complicated for my young mind lacking the MB knowledge 😂

Check the spec and if it is MB229.1 then the Napa oil will be fine for now at least - assuming Gazwould is correct re its spec.
You can always choose something different when the next oil change rolls around based on the MB spec, your preferred viscosity grade, and a manufacturer who's products you trust.

If you are anything like i was when 20 years old, you will have changed your car 4 times before you are due an oil change so don't worry about it 😉

Napa is a US market oil, made by Valvoline. What you have in there now will be fine; don't worry about it. If you still have the car when the next oil change is done, have it changed for a 5W40 next year to give you peace of mind.

By this time the M112 engine -Mercedes had moved to using 5w40 fully synthetic engine oil for the bulk of its passenger cars-----possibly because synthetic oils reputedly stay in grade longer thus potentially extending the service interval---if you retain the existing 10w40 oil change it at 6,000 MILES
PS any garage that relies on its oil supplier to tell them which oil to use in a particular vehicle needs avoided in the future!

Noted, I will do. I honestly thought they'd be alright I've used them before but not for servicing... But the guy I spoke to didn't seem to have a clue. I don't think I will leave the oil in there for long, I will get some 5w40 put in.

Think of it as a flush .
Exactly... I'll get my own oil and just get a garage to put it in. Already had the filer and everything changed at the last place so it will just be that oil out then 5w-40 in..

I was thinking either one of these oils, would either of these be alright for the M112 engine or would you recommend one over the other? Though for some reason the Halfords checking service seems to think the Mobil oil is not suitable for my car despite that's what's been used in it since new 🤔...

Either will be fine, though I'd take the Petronas, which will have MB approval (hardly surprisingly, as Petronas make MB oil these days...).

As a general rule, Halfords is not the cheapest place to buy oil, though if there's an offer on it may be.

If I were you, I'd see if I could find a recommended Mercedes specialist to do your servicing, rather than a generalist garage.

Halfords currently have the Petronas oil on offer so I will go with that just to be on the safe side. For future reference I will either make the 4 hour journey to my trusted mechanic in London or find a specialist who knows how to work on a proper merc 🤣. It's since I've relocated from London, I've struggled to find decent, trustworthy and competent garage. I'll just buy the oil this time myself and get a mechanic to just drain and refill with new oil, keep the oil filter that's brand new. That way at least there won't be any discrepancies on which oil has gone into my car if I get it myself!!!

If there is a concern about the lubricant used in your vehicle there is a good reason to use a Mercedes Garage or a Mercedes Specialist where the service record is logged onto the official Merecedes system so there is some come back if incorrect parts are used. I would always go for fully synthetic oils meeting MB spec required g do or the vehicle.

I had the same engine in the same car. Mobil 1 0w40 super syn was factory fill back in the day and what I used for 50k miles with no issue.

My vote would be either that, or the latest bulk 20l eco cube of mb229.5x at about £70 and 8L per oil change. DIY.

I decided to check the oil level of the car through the computer and its suggesting that it has between 8.6 and 8.7 litres of oil in and it's only supposed to have up to 8!!!! It also said reduce engine oil. There have been no warning lights on the dash but if I found out they've overfilled the tank with oil, it'll be a whole other matter. 😡 I am not sure whether it's because I am not parked level enough but it has never said that before it would always say "engine oil level okay".

If these readings don't change tomorrow I won't be driving the car until I get this sorted out. It's ridiculous. If they've overfilled it they're complete p**** who can't do their job properly.

Baring in mind I've driven 120 miles since this service so if its been overfilled that can't be good for the car
