I have recently purchased a used E55 AMG

I am baffled about the supercharger rubber hosing as this does not seem right at all

There is a screw in 1 hose, I can’t seem to find out what this hose is for but the screw ain’t right!
Also the second hose runs across the supercharger - never seen this before. (Pic too large to upload) Almost as if it’s too short to run the normal route where ever that is

Again anyone who can help me shed light on these hose paths and operations would be great, I’m struggling to find specific info online but I want to rectify this back to OEM design

Thanks

Mine is standard buddy, Exhaust is the only mod that im aware of.

Hi,
The other hose you refer to, is it the one next to the one with the screw in it?
If so this is meant to run under the charger to the front left of the charger and connects to the Vacuum Changeover valve (fitted on top of the front drivers side rocker cover) there is a non return valve in the hose at the end you took a photo of.
This all part of the Secondary Air Injection Pump System, if the engine management light is out (provided someone hasn't coded it out) then its working ok.

Hi Merc85,

Looking at your picture again; your left hose, does that disappear under the supercharger unit?
An the hose on the right is simply capped!

I thought the supercharger hose looped out back into itself at first glance but now based on Andy27168 comment I am thinking it disappears under the supercharger like he says.

In which case I am wondering why does your left hand output go to the secondary air pump and my right hand does! Unless both valves have the same purpose but only 1 is required so the other is capped.

Hi Andy27168,

Thanks for your comments very helpful and I believe you to be bang on the money. I have attached an image of my engine. The hose travels exactly as your explained.
Its funny you mention secondary air pump injection as I have this as a fault code currently (attached)

I brought the car 7.12.20 and it had done about 400 miles per year in past 4 years, then I drove 800 miles in a weekend including travelling to Frankfurt and hitting the autobahn at max speed!

Now its stuck in my park haus at my Frankfurt flat whilst I wait for the garages to open 11.01.21 to get these issues fixed. I have an obvious misfire, down on power, drives like s**t, coolant is disappearing at alarming rate without sign of a leak.
And since I stopped driving it, my air suspension on the left side has dropped so now I have no idea how I can get to the garage without damaging the front wing and bumper!!!

My Journey here killed it lol But was incredible fun before the problems surfaced, she was running sweet when I picked her up and for the first 48 hours.

Anyway, I noticed Merc85 supercharger hose is fed from the left hole, and mine the right - Opposite sides have caps (or screws haha)
I take it both sides do the same thing but only 1 is needed? If not why would they differ?

I will get the garage to do any work necessary to get this engine up to spec, replace hoses (including taking the correct path you described) and replace insulation tape with proper copex systems to protect cables and any repairs, gaskets etc needed to get this beast healthy again!

I have had this car 3 weeks and only driven it 4 days!!! Painful to finally get this amazing car and not enjoy it with my time off over xmas and new year.

Hi,
That pipe is run exactly as mine currently is, to run it properly the charger needs to be removed, and as mine is working perfectly I am not going to take the charger off just for this at the moment.
By disconnecting it can be routed quite neatly subtly between the charger and drivers side surge tank.
Is the Engine Management light on? does the 0410 code clear?

Hi Andy,

No the fault hasn't cleared but I need to take it go a garage, haven't driven it since I had it diagnosed. I want to learn about this car and certain things to fix but a will get mechanic to do the works initially whilst I carry out more research.

Problem I have is I am working in Germany and if I don't know what I am talking about when I go to local mechanics - They have my pants down!
That said I have found a good one but I still want him to know I am serious about understanding and rectifying my car in a certain way.

I am struggling to find these hose names online, where can I purchase replacement lines for these types of things? I have tried looking for secondary air pump hose lines, superchargers hoses....im getting no where!

If I go through the effort of removing the supercharger, I may as well arrange for deep clean of the SC unit and re-spray before re-sitting. New SC oil. Lovely!

I have also seen talk about uprated CAMS - Maybe this is the time for this type of work to be carried out whilst the SC is already off? I have heard you can increase 20 odd rwhp with this mod. Just looking into this as well as other things currently.

I am putting together a project of all works I want to get carried out but its a monster task.
If for now I can get the car running right that would be the first step!

Do you have any tips for buying decent replacement parts? (including these hoses lol)

Thanks

Just found out its vacuum hose and a link on another forum explaining others who tried re-routing by removing surge tank.

Maybe we can re-route without dropping the SC unit?
