M272 E30 3L V6 Petrol engine remapping

Hi,

I always thought the 3L V6 in the 280 was the same as that in the 300 and 320, and it wasn't until you get to the 350, it went to 3.5L. Being only a software/mapping difference between the power outputs, therefore it could be remapped to unlock quite a bit more potential.

It seems I was wrong, though. As I asked MSL for a price and expected figures, and they said there's no point remapping it, as it'll only gain an extra 10bhp.

How can that be? I'm not doubting them, and appreciate their honesty, but I'd have thought maybe 20bhp or more was attainable. It's 231bhp as standard. I'd have been happy with 250 from it.

Has anyone else had this engine remapped?

Is the 320 not the earlier M112 ENGINE

There was a degree of overlap timewise with the different models.

Normally aspirated engines do not show significant power gains from re-mapping.

To achieve a significant increase in power and torque would also require revised cylinder heads, probably increased compression ratio, changes to the fuel injectors and manifolds etc
