Im a owner of a r230 M272 and have had my balancer shaft changed at 130k miles (yes the engine came out). I had replaced camshaft magnets and solenoids last year so with a check engine light my independant mercedes specialist Maxwell Greene in Fulham explained that engine has gone out of timing which has triggered on my light (they have a star machine). so although my timing chain had stretched it was advised that i will have to replace the balancer shaft too. in doing so i replaced every possible worn part alongside the shaft kit and chain/guides while the engine was out and yes paid a £5.5k for the pleasure of it but when i got back the vehicle it felt so smooth it was like being in a different car. But that cost rebuilt the lower part of the engine apart from anti roll bars. which is good until the chain shows signs of wear again.
