M3 average speed cameras being installed

While driving home the other day I noticed the yellow poles for average speed cameras being installed on the M3 between the M25 and Sunbury. There were also signs saying "Cameras not in use".

Just a heads up, although it'll probably result in heads-down driving

I suspect this is linked to some planned roadworks or something as there are also cones along the hard shoulder.

Apparently that stretch of the M3 is going to be 'smart motorway' which means they use the hard shoulder as an extra lane in peak periods

Really? That bit of motorway is almost always clear up to Sunbury cross?

Yea, probably to avoid all smash ups caused by drivers slowing right down to 50 in little bit of rain,there will be special lane for the slow geezers..
