Hi folks,

This seems to be a common problem affecting differant models. A/B class and C class etc.

My Wife has a 2006 B170, and the drivers door lock is doing the bouncing rat-tat-tat thing. The front pass door was done last year by Mercedes as a "good will" repair. It appears that good will has now run out, despite a FMBSH.

I've been advised that it needs a new actuator, bellows and some rivets to fix. I plan to try some silicone down the button shaft as a temporary fix. Not sure about rivet guns and door airbags etc!

It seems that the C,E, ML etc need a new spring rather than an actuator. Do they have a differant problem with the same symptom, or is there a common fix.

Any advice welcomed.

You will be wasting your time... it is an oddly shaped spring that breaks so no amount of silicone will help.

It needs to be changed. Get an indie to do it, the part isnt that expensive.

Indie quoting 1.8 hrs plus part (lock)= £220+. It seems it may not be a spring on the A/B classes. A rod passing through a rubber boot suffers friction. Replacement boot has been improved. Problem exacerbated in cold conditions. which may explain why its always Nov/Dec when it rears it head.

Silicone applied and its stopped (for now), fingers crossed.

My drivers door lock has gone on my E class, got the lock for £67+vat from merc and mates garage is doing it for £40 on monday.

Sounds crazy I know. Put a tothpick down the side of the knob/post that goes up and down when the door locks/unlocks. I think this is a quick cure.

Saw that one on youtube. It works as well. Silicone is working for the moment, Its cheaper that the lock actuator which I was quoted at over £100. Sadly independant Merc specialist price no cheaper than Main dealer.

Will see if the fix holds up till its next service is due.

I paid £67+vat (£80.40) only 3 days ago from mercedes dealer in sheffield for the whole actuator and that was trade price, don't you know anyone in the trade who can order for you?
I buy and sell cars so just showed my trade insurance certificate so now I get parts at trade price.

Certainly an avenue to explore, Lock behaving itself for the moment, so will see what happens
