Machine Polishing Advice

There's a black Mondeo bonnet on eBay near me going very cheap at the moment so I may get that to have a play with first.

Polishing a solid black paint into perfection is quite hard for a novice but if you geta 90% result on that you can work in good confidence on most other paints. Practise makes perfect ;)

I got the detailing bug and use a Machine Polisher on my obsidian black C class. The Merc paint is very hard but if you just want to get than glass shine and get rid of swirls then stick to the finer compounds. I use the Menzerna Power finish and & Final finish which work really well and you can really go for it without damaging the paint. Get the best pad you can such as a festool. WARNING don't get obsessed with scratches. I used a G3 compound for a deeper one which is harsher than normal and I wondered what the faint grey was. A little more revealed the primer! Remember you still have hands so use them wisely.

Just remember, when you start to get cocky it will remind you who's boss. And removing very fine layers of paint is a one way process. It doesn't grow back so use occasionally. Point taken about burning the paint. I assumed you would know to keep it moving...
