With what criteria?

I suppose some would nominate that yawn-fest of The Godfather and all it's sequels.

Road To Perdition?

Goodfellas is pretty good and it's (allegedly) based on a true story.

Depending on how old your niece is she probably shouldn't watch any mafia/gangster movies...

Once upon a time in America.

The ganster film that started them all. Fantastic it is too

"Gangster No1" starring Roddy McDowell and Paul Bettany
"Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels"
"The Untouchables" ( My Fave!) all about Al Capone
"The road to Perdition" - Tom Hanks
"Casino"
"A New York Tale" - Robert DeNiro
"Layer Cake"
"The Public Enemy" - 1931 - Jimmy Cagney
"Donnie Brasco" - Pacino
"Gangs of New York" - Di Caprio
"Things to do in Denver when your dead" - Andy Garcia

Oh, dear. Tsk, tsk, tsk.

The Long Good Friday.

Although Layer Cake is my favorite, probably about four or five on my personal list.

An excellent crime thriller is Charlie Varrick. My personal #1.

The Italian Job :D No not the American Remake.....the original....

Get Carter would be in my top 10. A few others:
Millers Crossing, Carllitos Way, Donnie Brasco

So many films, so little time :)
