Hi all, I’ve been very busy this week trying to find a cheaper source of the magic vision wiper blades for my SL. The Mercedes part no is A2318201245. they are made by Valeo, part no VA325.
MB Hull were £95 with trade, I’ve been watching a set from MB of Newcastle on eBay for £97 and just received an email offering 10% off 😀
Ive tried the usual places ECP, GSF, Local motor factors Etc who cannot supply them, even though Valeo claim that they can order them if they choose to.
My local Motorist shop can obtain them for around £140 🙃

I expect they are like the ones on my S63. Mine have markings from SWF, but I think they are related to Valeo.

They are expensive. Just replacing the wiper blades would make sense, but they are well attached.

Am I right in thinking that Mercedes only offered magic vision on the R231 SL?

Cannot help, but not looking forward to the cost of replacing the blades on mine. @mark999 what mileage has your car done?

Hi, I’m only at 5000 miles, had hoped to put on a lot more this year. Im sure I’ll make it up now lockdown is lifting😀
From new I’ve had a very smeary screen. MB Hull have degreased it which seems to have helped. If not it’s new wipers time☹️
Looking at the Valeo site MB have fitted the magic vision blades to to various E , GLE, GLS S, and SLs

They tried some snake oil on mine, but it was just knackered wipers. New ones were a good improvement.

Citroen had something similar - wiper fluid fed through the washer pivot to a perforated pipe attached to the wiper arm - about thirty years ago on the CX. I don't think lasers, or magic, were involved, though...

SWF are indeed owned by Valeo, for some time now.

Our now-scrapped Toyota Previa had the windscreen washers incorporated into the windscreen wiper blades via pipes going through the windscren wiper arms, which why Toyota only sold replacement blade rubber strips but not complete blades.

I think they work pretty well. The screen wash is pretty well contained and I can see that being better on a convertible. Bit kinder on following traffic too.

Quite a bit of work heating them and I expect that’s a large part of the crazy cost. The elements and plugs are quite something if you take them apart and take a look.

Just buy them - it’s an expensive car with expensive parts.

Life is too short to worry about saving a tenner

I've done 15,000 miles and mine are still fine!

As a young man (70s), I was looking a buying a used Mercedes and my step-dad said to me "will you be able to afford the maintenance?". I didn't buy the car.

Saved a tenner by ordering from MB Newcastle on eBay😀 I’ve always fund them much cheaper than my local dealer and very efficient.

I have said wipers and they are very good although I never had issues with the old school way of doing things.

I wasn't aware of the replacement cost of wiper blades though - not that I really care as I don't really "get through" wipers.

I had warranty work to replace one of the wiper arms.

To cut a long story short, they messed up a few times despite me showing them the issue 3 times but in on one attempt to "fix" the problem, they misunderstood from the job sheet and just replaced both wipers under warranty.

At the time I thought that was fine as it saved me £50 > £60 maybe in future but now I see it was a lot more!

.............

I had the conventional wipers on my SLK and in certain conditions with the roof down the washer water could & did wet you.

The biggest advantage of the "magic vision" is the fact that your view is never obstructed with the water spraying onto the screen like ordinary wipers.
