Magnetic fan clutch

Hi all

The barge is having a hot spell and I fear the mechanical fan isn't working.

It's a magnetic clutch and I wondered if the test for it is still the same?

Rolled up newspaper, if it stops the fan when the auxillary fans are on then it's kaput?

Could be the ring solenoid,but more likely to be the thermal switch or its supply at the front of the cylinder head. Shorting across this should make the fan engage. I wouldn't use a rolled up newspaper-too much resistance-something flexible like a bit cardboard or the famous carrot test.
