Wondering if a car has a remap, and it is taken to main dealer for servicing, would they wipe the remap?
If so, would you normally pay to have it put on again?
Totally agree with this: indie is more likely to listen to you and not do updates that overwrite a map, in my opinion. The remap may get overwritten if the dealer applies an ECU software update. This is not done routinely, but there have been cases (such as the 'Dieselgate' software update) where ECU updates have been applied without the owner's permission. You can of course specify that the car is remapped, and you do not want any software updates to be applied to it, but there’s no guarantee they'll adhere to it. To be honest, if you are concerned about it, I wouldn't take a remapped car to the dealer - once the car has been remapped, it will be safer to use a trusted independent specialist instead.
As for paying for it again... it varies and depends on the type of remap (custom/dyno or standard/OBDII etc), and on the remapper's policy re re-remapping charges.
I specifically told the service manager not to apply any software updates to the ECU and that it has been remapped.
No problem, wrote it on the worksheet along with no wash afterwards.
If you have a remap at MSL, you can buy the "My Genius" OBD unit that can download both the OEM map and the remap and can be switched over when you like. It is however tied to your car and can't be used on another car.
I don't know..................but Acid at MSL Performance can advise you.Do you know if the My-Genius is available for the 3.0 diesel (2012) or just the AMG engined cars?
Hi Ed.Andy, I assume you've had the diesel gate emissions ECU software update already?
For what it's worth, the update done to my car was specified in my service history. You may find it itemised if you go through them one by one.Hi Ed.
I assume it was done to the car prior to my purchasing it. It has a full MB service history and nothing was mentioned about it when it was serviced by MB earlier this year.
I have just checked online and the update has been carried out.Andy, I assume you've had the diesel gate emissions ECU software update already?
If either of your Nox sensors go bad, you'll know what caused it. The update.I have just checked online and the update has been carried out.
Hi , ExcellentHad my BMW remap removed when they did an ECU update at a service , went back in to complain and the initially "cocky" service manager pointed out that whoever did the remap never updated the database so i should contact them to have it re-installed.
He then asked who did the remap , he wasn`t so "cocky" when i told him it was them.
