hi all... got the e55 yesterday with aftermarket 20" alloys with chrome rims and black to spokes.... what is the best way to preserve them? I suppose wash as normal... but after drying should I use a chrome polish and or place a film of ol over the surface? or none of these.... its just that whilst they are looking good its easier to keep on top from day 1 until whereas afterwards it becomes a harder job to maintain them

Is it really chrome or polished alloy?

Good quality chrome needs little more than a quick wipe, polished alloy is very high maintenence.

mmm good point I will check with seller as he will have better knowledge

Hi. Just seen the pics of your car, very nice. Your wheels have a radinox lip/dish which is made from stainless steel and not "alloy". The lips are pressed into the wheel. The dishes/lips are removable and have alloy underneath which can be mirror polished. Don't waste your time polishing the stainless steel if its damaged, simply remove and polish the actual alloy which lays beneath it.

HTH.

P.S once the radinox dish/lips are removed you will not be able to repress them back in. Once removed you are committed to either mirror polishing or paint.

If they are radinox you shouldn't have to do too much just regular clean/wax. If its alloy its constant maintenance and ideally you want winter wheels otherwise they will be knackered after one winter. Laquer over alloy works but once the laquer chips away they corrode and look awful or you can paint.
