BBC News is reporting that a major medical alert has resulted in many ambulances queuing outside the hospital. All hospital beds are full and the A&E department is full with paramedics treating people in ambulances outside.

The hospital is on "black alert" which is the very highest state of alert. What is particularly worrying is that a hospital spokesman told the BBC that all other general hospitals in the east are also on black alert.

Are there any forum members living in East Anglia who can shed any light on this? The BBC have studiously avoided saying what the problem is:

Latest update on the BBC News site (at 19:01 GMT) includes the following:

NNUH spokesman Andrew Stronach said there was no single incident that brought on the black alert. "It's just general run of the mill problems, like chest pains, collapses, diarrhoea and vomiting."

Alright, which one of you has been trying those Nigella recipes?

Still, we should spare a thought for the 68,000 birds who are being slaughtered today at a Suffolk farm.

They won't see Christmas.
