...after removal of Kazaa.

Guys - I do so hope you can help.I have a daughter in floods of tears as it looks like her removing Kazaa has totally f'd up her PC to such a degree that all her school work has gone.

Meg's decided to remove Kazaa and via add/remove programs did just that. After the removal - she found that XP shows no programms - yet they are there if you go via My PC. All her document folders are empty even though the folders are there.

I can't log on as an administrator to try and do a restore as that part seems to be missing.

i don't want to do any more damage - if that's possible and wondered what you think I should do.

Obiwankenobi - where are you - sorry that's scooby doo innit :p

The files will still be there, even if a search brings back nothing. You can recover the files using some tools I got a couple of years ago, they will bring things back even after re-partitioning and formatting :) I will send you all the details :)

When you're on the login screen, does pressing ctrl+alt+del followed by del bring up the admin account to login into?

Here's hoping you and Meg get it sorted.

What you need is Easy Recovery Professional which recovers even formatted files.
I have a copy but have never needed to use it, touch wood.

Goto ontrack.com and look for easy recovery professional. Download trial and install. It will allow you to see lost files. If you u can see files let us know and i may be able to help.

Hi Pammy

Get Meg to try and run the restore program built in to XP. Assuming she has the restore program switched on (it is by default), then restore it to a point (date/time) just before she removed Kazoo. I'm not sure of the exact allocation of files that Kazoo may make within Windows as I've never used it, however the one good thing that's built into XP is that it never deletes any of its own files - they always remain on the hard drive in some guise or another.

As the other good advice given here, despair not, there are many data recovery programs available, even for corrupted files. Whatever happens, tell her not to do a disk reformat or attempt to delete any other files until the problem is resolved.

Best regards,

Alex

^That'll work :)
