My E-Class, for some reason the side lights won't turn off when the engine is running. When engine is off, it all turns off.

Now, we have tested the indicator stalk, thats all fine. Side light fuses , when taken out, the left one remains on when engine is on and the right one goes off.

Whats going wrong?

It could be a control unit but just check the rear lights, in particular the brake light bulbs.

The sidelights could be getting a feed from somewhere else.

I take it the car is a W211 version car.

we do need to know what car it is, perferrably the first 6 numbers of the VIN is 210??? 211???

Can you do anything with the rear lamps on a W211????

If it's a W211 like mine check for the daylight running lamp settings - in the onboard computer under convenience there's an option for lights auto / permanent...

(W211 looks like the one in the pic below... 2002 onwards...)

Yes, thats right.

The brake light bulb comes on as well when engine is running.

If sidelights are getting feed from somewhere, what possibilties can they be?

Masbe the brake light bulb if it's the wrong one.
Remove it and see if the lights go out.
