Manifold protector instalation for OM642; V6 CDI 280 & 320

... i have stopped the leak by installing the seal in the pipe with a smear of silicone on the outside of the seal.

I have used this trick on 3 engines so far and not had a leak
Black C320, What kind of silicone have you used on the outside of the orange seal?

In theory it does seem like a good idea, i don't want to rubbish your idea and some owners actually use a reshaped aluminium pie dish, but it does not stop the oil dripping on the swirl motor.
The panty liner does the job on my car if any oil passes the seal.

I'm sure that this all works and it's wonderful that it helps but, are Mercedes Benz now so badly built that it has it come to having to use pie dishes and panty liners?

I thought Mercedes Benz were world-renowned for building solid and durable cars.

Someone bought some shares and took control of the company and is now looking for profit above pride in the product.

Like the cars, it won't work.

All the decent makes like Mercedes, Volvo et al are just rubbish nowadays.

It's really tragic.

And they keep making them smaller and less attractive.

They just have no class these days.

Too many models. Too wide a range. And so cheaply made.

There are indeed 2 modified seals and I have fitted both..
One is the crank case breather to inlet seal .. I fitted the whole kit including the new crank case breather (Part number MBA642 010 18 91)
The large orange inlet to turbo seal is part number: MBA642 094 00 80

I used Hylomar Blue sealant to seal the large orange inlet to turbo seal..
As has been said before do not over tighten the jubilee clip that holds the plastic inlet manifold onto the large orange oil seal.

Does a new breather stop oil getting into the intake?
