Ok im getting the e320 cdi Dyno'd at the end of the month, but im starting to think mine my be mapped, Im not talking Brabus or nowt like that but im not entirly sure its standard.

In comparrision to my Mapped 850r the Merc is only slower by 5mph over a measured 1/4 mile rollen start.

The volvo was 1490kg had a power of 260bhp torque 455nms

The Merc e320 cdi 1,785kg and power of 204bhp torque 500nms

I relise the Merc has more Torque but would that really make up nr 55bhp of disadvantage, and 295kg in weight?

This is only light hearted but id like to hear from anyone who has a interest in this sort of thing.

Also is there anyway of telling wether my Merc is mapped, with the Volvo's usually Rica (tuner) put a sticker on the ecu.

And another thing thinking about it, at light throttle use im regualary getting 51mpg is that correct for a e320 cdi?

Your 500 newtons of torque does make a big difference. Even a quality tuning box like Speedhawk can get you up to 250 bhp, a good remap may get it even higher and the Speedhawk can increase the torque to 580 Nm. the Speedhawk is on my shopping list, Olly at PCS (a regular contributor here) recommends them. The Speedhawk can be turned on and off and comes with nine different maps to find the one that suits your car and your driving and they are transferable to other cars.

MPG needs to be checked by brim to brim tankfuls and then also compare to what the OBD indicates. If the OBD is hugely optimistic that could indicate a tuned car.

Will have a look at the speed hawk for sure, thankyou ;)

A 320cdi in standard guise will surprise many vehicles. A remapped one can be impressive if done right.

51mpg is optimistic but dependant on driving.

That kind of economy can be achieved in a 320cdi in optimum conditions, but rare to see over 50mpg unless you always drive like a saint on the motorway for 40+ miles.

i do drive her easy tbh, and mostly over 40 miles at a time so perhaps its normal, :thumb:

When I had my 2004 E320 CDI (IL6), on longish motorway runs with the cruise set around 65 mph, it used to indicate up to 50mpg on the computer.
When I sold it, it indicated 34.5mpg overall since the last reset (7K miles), but I don't really trust computers.
Much better to use 'Fuelly' and put in your mileage and litres in at every fill.
That way, you get a true reading.
My replacement is a 2009 S211 E280 CDI (V6), which doesn't seem to get anywhere near the mpg as the E320 CDI.
