I was just wondering if anyone else had seen this month's Quentin Willson "Classics on the Cusp" article about the W210 E55?

As I'm currently in the process of buying a 1999 model, I was heartened to read that QW thinks these are on the verge of achieving proper classic status and that, even at his valuation of £8,000, they're cheaper than they should be.

I've read a few posts here recently querying sellers asking for significantly more than this and it will be interesting to see if prices do start to creep up...

I have not seen the article but happy that the values may be on the rise as I have a 2000 model! Mine is a high mileage car (109000) so won't positively affect me so much!

I have seen one dealer in Scotland struggle to sell a 2000 car with 80,000 miles at £5k, it may be that 4 litre plus cars are are a hard sell petrol wise!

Classic status will no doubt help sale price in the long run, we may have bought at the right time! ;)

Sorry but,Quentin Willson:eek:...

I don't think these will hit classic status for some reason, too many made and the W210 just doesn't have that sort of 'feel'

Quentin Willson writes a good article, better than him presenting TV shows!

I think the next generation of 'young timers' is on it's way, and the E55 will be one of them.

Look at the value of low mileage original SLKs and Z3s, going up, when was the last time you saw a pre face lift CLK? They might be next and so on.

This generation of cars are being bought by people who couldn't when they were new and now they are interesting enough to be 'different' and as they get rarer prices will firm up if there is demand

As an aside, having just bought a 1998 CLK, there were almost as many being broken on eBay as there are complete cars for sale, very few w208 clk convertibles for sale, surprised me

The car I'm buying has a high recorded mileage but averages out as low mileage for its age. It has a very high spec and has been cosseted by its two previous owners with FSH and regular Waxoyling so no sign of rust. Personally I didn't want a silver or black one and my patience finally paid off and I found the right car for me at a very good price about a month ago.

As I have been looking for a car for the past six months or so, I also saw the Scottish car you refer to advertised. There seem to have been two or three such vehicles priced at about £5k that just don't seem to have found an owner in that time, which is a pity assuming they are good, straight cars.

I do feel that we have bought at the right time but I don't really mind if prices don't rise significantly as I plan to keep mine for the foreseeable future.

Mine has no history but I bought it from my specialist garage who have done some work on her: engine mounts, suspension etc. It needs a little paint but is mechanically sound.

You have found a good one in top condition with great history, despite mine being silver I would agree another colour is quite refreshing!

I bought the car because it is a little different and will certainly stand out from the crowd, I agree, I too am not overly concerned if it does not acquire "classic" status. Mine is certainly a project and I will keep her for a while! Enjoy as I certainly will ;)
