W211 E200 K - they don't make em like they used to, which is why it's been replaced with a 911 :)
At last, they obviously heard I'd moved and decided it was time to act :D

Taken from this month's Mercedes Enthusiast........

"In a bid to improve falling quality standards, Mercedes is embarking on a worldwide model recall. Customers are being informed in writing and a special European hotline has been set up (00800 1 777 7777).

Six- and Eight-cylinder petrol powered cars built between June 2001 and November 2004 are having their voltage regulators checked and replaced if necessary. E- and CLS-Classes from January 2002 to January 2005 are having new battery control unit software to enhance the onboard power supply, and braking systems are being updated on current E-,SL- and CLS-Classes built between June 2001 and March 2005.

Head of Mercedes Dr Eckhard Cordes commented, “We are now producing the best product quality ever and our aim is to ensure that those vehicles in the hands of customers which are the cause of complaints achieve a standard of quality that reflects our highest expectations.

:D :D I think I am in the same boat, but hesitate over the long word  :D

I suppose at least I have received a letter from the dealer saying I may or may not receive a recall, even though the Helpline informed me I was indeed one of 'The chosen ones' ;)

Regards,
John

Same here. Except that the helpline said they weren't sure whether I was affected. Most unhelpful.

I know I'm affected, since I keep getting the battery protection warning, even after a long drive. Most annoying, as it then disables Parktronic and cuts the A/C blower right back.

Have you tried trickle charging the battery Calum? I had this warning daily. When the dealer charged the battery overnight it was a while before it appeared again. This was prior to the recall fix for the problem.

I will get a letter says MBUK helpline and will be fitted in at my next service, I told them I do less than 2K a year so that could be a long time and is that the best they could do they advised to get in touch with my dealer, why is it always me that has to contact them, I am still waiting for a test drive of the new CLS asked for about 2 months ago, I give up.

Thanks; I haven't yet tried that. I have noticed that the error comes up regardless of whether I've recently done a long journey. In fact it comes up even during long journeys (after an hour or two on the road), daytime, no unusual loads.

update: the dealers had the car for two days, so they could take out the battery and bench test it, etc. They immediately noticed that the cables weren't as tight as they ought to be. They could reproduce the problem without difficulty, then re-fitted everything and tightened it up, and the problem does seem to have gone. It's possible that when my car kit was fitted (not by a dealer) the fitter didn't tighten things up properly; of course, I've no evidence of that.

Usual excellent service from Robinsons here in Cambridge: nice new 'A' class for me for two days whilst they had mine (I could have had an 'E' if I'd waited a bit longer) email updates from the service manager, no fuss, no paperwork, no cost whatsoever. Can't complain
