Matching ink cartridge to printer.

I have done this a few times, but enough is enough I ordered some ink cartridges for my printer and soon after delivery, the printer went u/s. So now I have a few ink cartridges and no printer. Is it possible to match a cartridge to a printer. The original was a brother CP150C which is now discontinued.
