Hi,
I've had my C350CDI for a couple of weeks now. Lovely car, enjoy driving it immensely.

I have the COMAND unit, with the multi disc changer, nav and media interface. I was given a new set of cables from the supplying dealer.

I have a 5th gen iPod classic which when connected displays incompatible device. So no tunes from that. I tested the USB interface, which worked great for the 8GB memory I had lying around. I upped the ante by clearing an 320GB hdd. Formatted in FAT32 and loaded it up with MP3s, about 80GB worth which equates to 10000 tracks. Plugged it in "incompatible device"

I've also looked for BT streaming from my phone, apparently that only came with NTG4.5 on the facelift W204 :dk:

So have you guys and gals got ther iPod working ?
Have you managed to get a hdd working with it ?
What is the largest memory stick you got working ?

I'd like to get the largest economical size, say 64GB.

Please detail your experiences.
Thanks

32GB for me.

It's in the manual ........

Hmm, I have read the manual, haven't seen the reference to max memory size. It does say to keep to 1000 tracks and to use "USB Device Subclass 6" devices, which I have never heard of till now.

Notes on USB Devices
In order to keep the initialisation time short, do not store data other than music files on the USB device.
Up to eight directory levels with up to 1,000 tracks are supported.
Do not use a USB extension cable or adapter. These may impair functionality.
Playlists are searched for in the background on the USB device and, if available, are offered beside folders in a separate category.

LTD how many songs do you have on the 32GB stick?

There is a iPod specific cable you need to use. I have the same car as you with the same iPod and it works a treat. Mines a 2012 car. If you use the USB cable you get that message.

Chris, I'm using the MI with the iPod cable connected to my iPod Classic.
I have three cables with it, USB, iPod and 3.5m socket.

The iPod cable should be plugged into the socket nearest the drivers side. There are two sockets under the armrest.

Chris, I think we have different cars... the MI is in the glovebox in mine, I guess yours is the facelift model ?
Having said that, I'm going out there again with a torch now.

Sounds like it. In mine the connections are under the arm rest in the centre of the car. What year is yours? Mine is Feb 12.

April 2010, with a pifling 231ps, not like your 264ps and it works with an iPod ! ... <jealous> !

I've spent hours messing around with hdd etc. I decided to give the ipod another go. I did a soft reset, SELECT + MENU on the pod and it works now ! No album art, but I can control the tracks, use play lists, random play ok. Charges the pod fine as well. So now I have two methods of playing music without resorting to juggling plastic disks.

Thanks for your input!

The album art is a bit hit and miss as it uses a database on the hard drive of your Command unit and not from the iPod. Some of mine come up but not all of them but TBH not too bothered. Good you got it working though :).

Thanks for your help Chris.

Some things more things I have found out. LTD was corrrect. 32GB is the largest HD or USB stick you can use at a time. Found the COMAND manual that came with the car.

Playlists on the USB stick work well. I used "Oplisker" from Sourceforge. Works well and is free.

So to summarise. A soft reset may be necessary to get your iDevice working.
