Soon after getting my Mercedes i did some searching re Clubs and forums - Have been member of Autobahnstormers for Years as i am the owner also of A Vauxhall Senator (now parked up and poorly) and a quite rare Opel Monza 3.0 GSE auto .Anyway i was advised that MBO club was the one to go for and i duly became a member paying £35 to do so - Now i find this club and almost immediately feel that i perhaps made a hasty decision , At this early stage i feel this club to be far more friendly and apt for my needs .

Ah The MBO is a bit slow on the forum, well perhaps - stopped would be a better expression. I have been a member on there on and off for a few years. I'm currently off - times is 'ard.

Good fun on here though and a wealth of information too. Put it down to experience and pull up a chair here.

I have met some really nice people at MBO -Northwest chapter - so no complaints from me.

Theres forums.mercedesclub.org thats free to use. A few here are members there. Its a good forum too.

There is the official forum too but I have no experience of that

I fear you joined the mercedes benz owners club - the forum itself is free to join and use

When getting my MB i was on google asking questions, it seemed to this forum that came up everytime with the answers, so joined. Very friendly, get the info i want everytime, couldnt be happier..

If you joined the UK Owners Club then for £35 you get a monthly magazine and access to massive resource of knowledge... Well worth it..

The forum is a bit slow but the club itself and their events are excellent.

It's worth noting there's a difference between the Mercedes-Benz Owners Club (MBO) and The Mercedes-Benz Club. The former has a free forum as mentioned; the latter is the officially-recognized club: membership gets you a Stuttgart-issued club card and access to WIS and EPC, as well as the club Gazette and the MB Classic magazine. Its forums are password-protected.

I find this busy, active forum (or a google internet search) to be the best place for getting tech answers.

I've heard rumblings even the 8 or 9 members who regularly use that forum are finding it a bit stale.

i could be wrong but MBO forum seems to lean towards more modern cars and the limited visits i have made have met with sarcasm from the stuffed shirt brigade.

Don't worry, you can get that here too, what sort of sarcasm are you after?

I can cope easily with the type where the issuer has a smile on his face ,After all us newbies do tend to mither quite a lot about things that may seem silly to some . Imagine me asking whats wrong with my gearbox when this sunday past i couldnt get gearstick out of Park only to learn later foot had to be placed on footbrake to allow such a thing . I also struggled to pull key fob from dashboard also days before again not knowing about foot needing to be on brake.

I think you will find that there are a lot more than 8 or 9 regular members, as well you know

Lots of people on here are also in the official MB club. As a forum this is much more interesting but the official club has lots of other benefits as mentioned above. They also have deal with the RAC for european breakdown cover with no old vehicle supplement. Great for the 124 and saves me way more than the annual £35.

It may yet prove useful being a member ,early doors yet .Already it appears some eager to defend so it prob is ok . Everybody has differing needs and expectations.

All right, 15 or 16.

The forum is a disgrace & the "not on my watch" attitude of Keers towards making it open to the public will continue to see it overshadowed & overtaken by the competition.

Members seem to think that paying £30 p.a. has bought them membership in some exclusive Gentlemen's club where they can avoid MB hoi polloi as found here, which is really a bit of joke.

David,

For clarification, there are three main, big, multi model UK MB clubs / forums:

1) This one, mbclub.co.uk .

2) The one you paid to join, AKA the TV forum, mercedesclub.org.uk

& the other one which charges a membership fee, has multiple passwords, a dead forum & is AKA the official club - mercedes-benz-club.co.uk .

HTH,

There is I believe"history" between Mercedes-Benz Owners Club and the official Mercedes-Benz Club. Allegedly? the group who now publish the MBO magazine once produced the official Mercedes-Benz Club magazine the Gazette. However sometime in the past there was a "parting of the ways" for reasons unknown with the production of the Gazette being awarded to someone else. It was at this point afaik the MBO was set up as a rival organisation producing their own magazine and hosting their own internet forum. It's entirely possible none of the leading players in this sorry saga are still involved in either organisation but its pretty much water under the bridge now I guess as it happened some time ago.:dk:

David joined the MBO not the official club, as I saw the post he made there on saturday about being disappointed at the quality of the magazine, and the stash of advertising bumff it came with.As far as I can tell that post was conveniently deleted/hidden they dont do criticism well at Owen Newman Publishing:D

You are entitled to your opinion, but most of us who areMercedes-Benz-Club members disagree. This is a great forum for the general public, the official one is for paying members everyone has a choice, remember we all enjoy the same cars.
No members of the offical club would belittle or slag off this site they way that you do the club, maybe you have your own agenda.
I notice that you post there when you are trying to flog something....my last word on it.
David sorry to run your post off topic

Guys, keep it nice or it'll have to be closed this thread?
