I have decided to take my C43 off the road and now face the dilema, do i keep or do i let go for the right price :dk:

Whilst a fantastic everyday car i just can't continue putting the miles on her, especially in this dreadful weather. So i guess i am putting out some feelers to see what peoples views are on the market, see if any members here could be tempted/interested??

Picking up my new daily driver tomorrow, 55 plate E280 5dr Sport - nice looker with factory AMG kit / wheels. Never seen it before but it has an electric floorpan in the boot, not quite sure what that is all about and god knows what that cost as an option 9 years ago!! :wallbash:

Nothing like the 43 but still a decent and quite rare example i feel (with options) so looking forward to a more sedate drive, still with a little bit of power if required

C43 are dropping in value, especially estates in silver.... I would be doing you a favour by offering £500 and taking it off your hands :)

Seriously though.... what is a good price? I am away at the mo (not prison) and would like to find a nice W202 next spring"ish"

C36/C43 only and S202 would be interesting.

But mine has a gloss black roof - £1000?

Why is that though - are you worried about resale or ruining the car?

Sorry defo90 - i have tried PM but can't send for some reason...

In all honesty i really wouldn't know what it's worth. There of course the cheap ones (2-3k) that you often see and then there are the ridiculously expensive ones - saw one earlier this year for 10k - must have been good!! (or an over optimistic seller!!) Thinking if i can't achieve at least 4k I'll hang onto it...

I've had mine for two years and have spent a small fortune maintaining it, most spent on front end - new discs / pads / ball joints / steering drag link... etc. Also just put on new tyres all round.

Chap before me owned it for some 7 years, has his own classic car body shop in Weybridge. Prior to selling he really went to town on it so it does look fantastic when detailed. I am getting the wheels refurbed in the spring, front bumper off and professionally resprayed - these are the only areas that bother me as the rest is pretty much immaculate. (looks a little unusal to some folk as the roof is gloss black, which i quite like tbh)

I'm thinking it can only go up in value, more so in around 5-7 years, hence why i would prefer to hang onto it. Oh, and it is a fantastic drive, never ceasing to put a smile on my face.

Will give it some thought as space is an issue (my lad has a 1971 beetle in the garage so we are already limited) so the wife may force my arm. If i do i will come here first as i would prefer to sell to a member.

Just picked up the E280. Very pleased with it but not quite the animal that is the C43

Actually its come 4 times!

Thanks for the info.

Aren't the running costs of the car you have bought, including depreciation as you put the miles on that, likely to massively outweigh those of your C43?

OK, it won't preserve it but are C43s likely to go the same way as UR Quattros, E30 M3s, Sierra/Escort Cosworths given the age and value it is at now?

Who would have thought 10-15 yrs ago that an an average condition E30 would be worth 15k+? And the lesser 325 motor sports are now starting to climb too.

Who knows what the 43's are going to be achieving in 5-10 yrs but if I would put my money more on them increasing than not. How much only time will tell.

Moving into the e280 hasn't been a financial decision, more a case of wanting to preserve the 43. And whether that is something I want to do or simply pass the car on, I'm yet to decide...

I have known Lee for over twenty years, remember when he bought it. Your steering wheel came off my C43 when I replaced it with a carbon fibre wheel. Olly of PCS bought mine. Great cars the C43. Good luck with which ever way you go.

5-7 years is a long time to hang onto a car in the hope it'll go up in value... I'd just use it as the daily driver and enjoy it myself... As I do with mine. :)

That's what I think but each to their own...

It's certainly what I am doing with mine (E55K, not C43).

Each to their own indeed

I love the C43 and would in an ideal world hang onto. Reason to sell would not be a financial one, purely the practicality of hanging onto a 2nd vehicle as i have explained.

Who said anything about hanging onto it for 5-7 years in the 'hope' it will go up in value?

E280 makes so much more sense from a daily driver point of view. yes it too will depreciate and at a far faster rate than the the 43 will appreciate - think we all realise that this goes without saying  However, for a car that is becomming rarer each year, for me, it seems a shame to add mile after mile to the 43 and more so during this time of the year.

Well i didn't know that c43amg :thumb:
