I met Prince Philip in person on a few occasions through the very many charities he supported - his public image as depicted in the tabloids is very different to how he comes across in real life. I found him humble, charming, and humorous. I wish him well.

I think there is a classic line from a Billy Connelly sketch where he goes on about Ronald Reagan having a button on his desk that will launch a nuclear attack on the world, and how Connelly's dad was five years younger that Reagan and they wouldn't even let him have access to the remote control for the TV.

96 eh? The fact that he is only now retiring could mean one of two things. Either he wanted to remain active for so long or that he didn't want to pass the baton on to someone else.

Mind you, his health has been an issue recently, so it is not surprising that he has decided to step down from public duties.
