Hi all,

Currently planning to do a trip to Germany in August.

Rough plan is to chunnel it to France, drive to Stuttgart on a Tuesday (leave midday arrive evening). Wednesday is a visit to the MB Classic Museum Link

Thursday I think we may visit the AMG factory - question here is a; is it open, and b; is it worth it ? I think they normally have about 8-10 specialist motors etc on display but I don't know if you can do a tour etc.

Friday is trip back to the Nuremberg Ring for a visit (I'm going with a couple of friends - one has a rather special Evo :bannana: ), and then home in the afternoon - possibly via Koln (fanstastic Chocolate place there).

Its all probably going to be from the 22nd August to 25th (back just in time for the Bank Hols).

Anyone know the answers to the Q's ? Anyone fancy coming along ? Probably be about 1200 miles.

Clarky.

The trip Maff organsied in 2003 sounds very similar, we took in all of the locations you mention but we went to the Nurburg Ring not the Nuremberg Ring and it's one of my all time memorable few days and I'll probably never have a road trip like it again. It's where my avatar came from :D

I TOTALLY recommend it. I would LOVE to do it again especially with the variation of track visited, but sadly cannot fit it in this year.

I would love to be able to take part but it is currently far too early to be able to say. When would you want to know numbers by?

Hehe - got me on the track name. Okay its that 11 mile track with 170 corners. I want to see if I can get my diesel round in 10 minutes like Clarkson!

No rush dude. Just post it in yer diary - and great - would be good to get a few peps along.

Would love to try and come along, would say a tentative yes from me, and i'll expect dad would follow in the 300ZX 'ring scraper (after last times crash!)

Any1 actually been to the AMG factory ? Can you tour it ? I guess its one of the deciding questions.

Yes - we (Matt, Graham, Steve Perry, Scott, Dorian, Myself + Others) went in 2003, and got a tour - I think Matt arranged it with a contact there at the time, so I'm sure a repeat would be possible ! Factory tour was amazing.

Would love to come again, but don't think time is going to allow for me this year either .. you will have lots of fun though !!

if we used a weekend so that less days off work had to be taken, I would be interested

Possible for me, albeit in a little red mini.

I've got multiple Nurbugring trips this year in April and May, so it might be a little bit of overload.

May be that we decide to drive late Wednesday, do AMG Thursday, Friday MB Classic, Ring on Sat?

that would be much better ... only 2 days off instead of 4

Yes - although I need 10 minutes to post an update will do it shortly !! Its all booked in Germany on the Friday for the AMG tour, with factory tour in stuttgart in the afternoon. Looks like travel down on Thursday.

I'm cutting the trip short though - so it will be a single overnight, tour, tour, and then back home.

I'm in if there's space .. short tour is good!

Can i hitch a lift with someone ?

Don't think the whale would appreciate a 1200 mile round trip finished off with a stint at the 'Ring .... i reckon that would be the last of her ..... :(

What date is it ?

Current idea is as follows:

August 24th, Thursday, Travel to Stuttgart via Eurotunnel, Stay in Marriott.

August 25th, Friday - Visit to AMG Engine Plant / Car Customisation tour at 10h00 - 12h00. Visit to Sindelfingen Plant and MB Classic Museum booked for 13h30.

Journey home, late night crossing via Eurotunnel, snuggled up in bed about 1am ish. Leaving bank holiday weekend still to enjoy and recover.

Cost of trip - est £100 for tunnel, £100 for fuel, £100 for hotel, and the cost of the AMG tour is 250 Euros, for upto 10 people.

If you are up for it - let me know and we can confirm nearer the time. The tour for the AMG part and the Sindelfingen plant is booked and confirmed, but not paid for.

Would love to come but we're in Devon that week making sand castles.

Please can I come ?

Would that be kenny ? ;)

Anyone can come along - just make sure you get to AMG in for the start time. I am limited in numbers, so please continue to post here if you are thinking of going. At the moment we have no issues.
