- Volvo V90 D5 AWD
My recent purchase and current vehicle wasn't bought as an approved used, instead coming from Sytner Specialist Vehicles located at Tollbar Volvo, Warwick.
It has 6 months MB warranty remaining.
I usually buy approved used to enjoy the comfort blanket it provides (though I know others disagree).
I thought its idle wasn't as smooth as I expected from a CDI V6 and maybe the 7G gearchanges were a bit notchy from 1st to 2nd.
These things can just niggle away at you (well, they do at me anyway), especially when there hadn't been the approved used checks prior to purchase.
Last week I went to MB Coventry who is the dealer who serviced the car from new, to obtain the electronic service history, and whilst I was there I mentioned the idle.
They asked a technician to have a look/listen and he said that perhaps it should have a further investigation.
To that end I booked it in for today at 8.30am.
Upon arrival I mentioned the gearbox to the service manager (which meant it was an additional item not scheduled on the job card).
At 9.00am the car went through to the workshop (with a large viewing window which I gazed through periodically) and the same technician worked on it until 11.40am, including driving it 5 times past the showroom window, round the perimeter of the dealership/service road (which I initially thought was a bit odd).
Anyway, at 11.45am the after sales lady and the technician met me outside with the car, where he explained that he'd found nothing wrong, but had reset/retightened/retorqued all the engine mounts and all the gearbox mounts and all the exhaust mounts. Additionally, he had confirmed the gearbox software was the latest version and had reset all the parameters to the technical data sheet which included "proving" the changes to a specific set of rev ranges, hence the driving cycle round the dealership/service road.
I waited with bated breath for the main dealer cost of the 2hrs 40 min's of analysis/reset and road test and the cost was........
£0, zip, zero, nowt, etc.
Now, I know it's under warranty, but they didn't actually find anything wrong so there was potential for a labour charge of some description.
I was advised to try the car and to take it back if I thought it was still not right.
Needless to say, his adjustments have made it smoother all round and I've had the piece of mind in knowing that my non approved used spent over 2 hours (including a road test) in the hands of a main dealer technician.
Turns out he knew the car, and the previous owner by name, who, he said, looked after it meticulously - more good news.
So, Mercedes Benz Coventry - thank you very much.
