MB - Jealousy

As a musician and someone involved in music, most of my friends and people I work with cannot afford any kind of MB, are young (under 30s) and aren't really interested in cars at all. They also don't know that my car isn't really as expensive as it looks.

As such, when I'm seen driving it, I'm actually the one to (only sometimes) feel a bit of a bellend.

I'm on my fifth S Class ( 1x W116 , 3xW126 , 1xW140 ) , this one cost me £500 , the most expensive was £1300 , and none of them are/were 'posh' .

All are/were very safe and comfortable , though .
I agree, not posh because they are not new but well posh if you appreciate the quality and prestige. Do I think my S211 is 'posher' than a late Mondeo? Absolutely! Do I care what others think? Nope!

I couldnt give a rats ass what others think. I had a very similar incident the other week. A mate of mine spent a similar amount of money on a car as i did. When he sent me a pic of the car i spotted a w204 on the pitch and commented "you should have bought the merc", to which his reply was "nah man this car was much better equipped and newer". I just relpyed ok". The said car was a 66 plate suzuki swift :wallbash:. I just thought too my self, ohh well we will see in time with depreciation and build quality etc.

It's a noticable cultural difference between living in the US vs the UK. When you own something nice in the US, if people have something to say about it, it's usually complementory. In the UK , they tend to make snide remarks . I'm not sure why this is but it was something that I picked up on right away when I moved here and again in my last visit.

I'm sure that it's not everyone, but it's noticable

Your right us brits are bitches ;)

...........

We should do more to ensure that the less-wealthy have access through finance to the material benefits that capital avails the wealthy.

Maybe they should work harder......

I agree!

Australia is the same - "tall poppy syndrome". Nobody likes you if you have something nicer than they have!

I had to laugh to myself yesterday. I go to a local Saturday morning breakfast club local to me. All sorts of classics, supercars, old bangers and everything in between. Two months ago I attended in my 1973 TR6 and chatted to many owners including three convertible Mercedes owners , 97 SLK, 62 plate SLK250 and an early 2000's CLK.
Yesterday I took my new SL63. ALL THREE MERCEDES OWNERS IGNORED ME TOTALLY AND DELIBERATELY STEERED CLEAR OF WALKING PAST MY CAR. Just about got one passing hello!!!

As a previous poster said - do I care, the smile on my face going to and returning home was enough for an enjoyable morning

Its a crazy old world we live in, ive had many cars over the years from shitters to nice expensive cars. Going back 16 years ago i had an escort cosworth not very old at the time. When having that a certain neighbour who moved in while having this didnt ever take me on. On the sad day i had to unfortunalty sell it due to a shitty divorse. Replacing that i had an xr2 (both which i still had now), upon that after no comunication from him for over 12 months previous to this he made a beeline over to me to say in his words "ohh dear you have hit rock bottom there kid" . My reply under my breath was " d**k head". Maybe i should have responded differently but i was not in the mood. I bounced back a year later and got in my first merc a 190 cosworth. Any way thats my biggest experience on jealosy. Suprisingly he didnt communicate with me again. He has since moved out haha
