Record market share for Mercedes-Benz Cars of 4.2 per cent for 2011
Fleet focus sees sales rise 36.1 per cent
Increases across medium vans and significant rises in truck sales
2012 begins with a wealth of offers across all ranges
6 January 2012, Milton Keynes. Mercedes-Benz UK has recorded significant sales growth in its car and commercial vehicle business in 2011, according to figures released today by SMMT. In a new car market that fell 4.41 per cent in 2011, Mercedes-Benz registrations increased 8.57 per cent to 81,341 units – giving a record UK market share of 4.2 per cent. Market share has remained at an average of over 4.0 per cent since December, 2010.
Success was spread throughout the range with growth across seven models (excluding all-new cars launched in 2011). The New Generation C-Class Saloon is up 9.7 per cent to 19,913 new cars; 7191 C-Class Estates were registered (up 53.9 per cent in 2010); and the all-new C-Class Coupé hit 3414 new cars. High-performance AMG versions of the C-Class proved popular too, with 479 cars being registered – and 150 were C 63 AMG Coupés.
The company’s new Fleet Team’s focus means that registrations in 2011 to fleets and business rose to 34,884 new cars – a rise of 36.1 per cent over 2010. This means over 40 per cent of all new Mercedes-Benz Cars were sold to British businesses in 2011.
Private purchasers enjoyed open-top motoring in 2011, helping the SLK Roadster achieve 3548 registrations (3129 were of the all-new car, which arrived in the summer), a rise of 50.7 per cent. The E-Class Cabriolet reported a 50.5 per cent increase to 4707 units.
Commercial vehicles
Sprinter panel vans led the way for Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicles in 2011, with registrations up 3.2 per cent to 12,165 new vehicles. The 7.5-tonne sector showed an increase of 11.0 per cent to 603 new trucks and heavy vans, whilst three-axle rigids increased 17.0 per cent to 771 units.
The Actros range proved its perennial popularity with registrations up 62.4 per cent to 1583 trucks. Tractor units were the biggest success story, with an improvement of 50.7 per cent to 3559 vehicles. Econic improved its results with an 7.5 per cent rise to 490, and the Fuso Canter recorded 787 units – an increase of 5.9 per cent over 2010’s year-end results.
Marcus Breitschwerdt, President and CEO Mercedes-Benz UK, said: “The economic conditions in the UK were tough for everyone in 2011, which makes the sales success across our wide range of vehicles even more satisfying. Credit is due to our excellent sales and customer service teams at our car retailers and CV dealers across the country. Their efforts have meant that, in relation to the rest of the market, more customers have driven away in new Mercedes-Benz vehicles than ever before.

Mr Breitschwerdt continued: “Our record new car market share makes us even more determined for 2012, and we’ve begun with a wide range of attractive offers across the range. A key headline is for those considering a new compact executive car is the new C-Class with its model line upgrade, and the E-Class Executive SE is set to stay as a popular choice for business buyers.
“This spring sees the introduction of the new B-Class family hatch, the new M-Class SUV – and we see an all-new SL Roadster this summer, and there’s plenty more coming throughout 2012. The electric Vito E-Cell, the all-new Actros heavy truck, a new city van and more AMGs. Hi Front 87 +vat and rear £75 + vat and £52-50 +vat for centre bearing.I also had a quote of £79.00 + £7.50 carriage from united-auto parts for just the 2 couplings but when I ordered they told me 1 of the parts is not in stock until near the end of January so I am going to ask for a refund. Do you have all 3 parts in stock ? Thanks

Its not surprising there is a sales growth given the discounts they are giving to the lease companies!
