Hi

The warranty MB has ran out on my car = c class 180k auto.

B Service

Mercedes price £444 - as car is 3 years old, price £377

Mercsonly £244

Kwikfit - their major service inc fully syn oil - £150 or £160, can't remember.
They also change spark plugs and air filter.

Thanks again

I wouldn't go KwikFit....Mercsonly independent? Sounds good to go for the middle bet.

Deffo avoid Kwik Fit, they are generalists - your car needs and deserves a specialist and thereforeit has to be a Merc specialist only.

Would you expect a well cooked steak at pizza hut!

No

Get thee to the indie! dont trust Kwikfit as I doubt you will be happy with the service you recieve (oh and the £400 of extra work that "NEEDS" doing while its in there)

Hello,

Idependant merc specialist fine, but quick fit...

Wouldn't trust them to make a brew..

Your call at the end of the day but could be false economy.

Stay as far as you can from Kwikfit.... Go for the independent; the savings versus Kwikfit aren't that impressive (its about 200 now at Kwikfit for a full service).

Thank you - i posted about 'mercs only last year but went to MB. At the time k/fit did not service.

I was told to steer clear of N/only.

I think i may go to mercsonly and report back here - i'm aiming for wed - so i will defo let you guys know.

Worth remembering the free breakdown service and thirty year rust guarantee that Mercedes give if full MBSH. The AA charge £150 p.a. for comparable cover for man and wife and want another £100 for trips to Europe. Mobilo includes Europe. IMO the Merc service is good value. And you get all the updates etc. According to What Car thousands of cars have not had all the recalls and updates done on them. People move, hard to contact etc. Going to a dealer is a good safeguard.

By the way servicing is the small change of motoring. My A service on an S320cdi was £235 inc vat after 15,000 miles. Only £100 of that was labour cost. The B service after another 15,000 miles will cost about £450. Say £700 for 30,000 miles. That is less than tuppence ha'penny a mile. Fuel is 15p per mile. Depreciation is ..........Ouch.

Older cars get big discounts on servicing. And then there is Service Plus. Great value IMO. Service with Merc and keep full MBSH and keep MObilo life and get other jobs done at an indie; that's one way that makes sense.

Good points Hawk - it's why I keep Edna with the main dealer.

Ive heard a lot of negative feedback about mercs only IIRC...

thanks

re the free breakdown - i'm with the AA as the free merc breakdown will not change tyres.

What is 'Service Plus'?
Thanks

PS - still undecided if k/fit or mercsonly.

BTW - my car was last serviced with 700 miles remaining to the next service and this time its close, changed down to 300 today - lets say i over ran the B service, and went to the independent - how would a future buyer be able to tell i over ran. I've don just over 9k miles since the last service in April 2006.
Thanks

Service+ is an MB product that is contract driven. You pay a monthly amount set by MB for the period of the contract and it covers all costs associated with servicing - so "free" servicing including parts and labour. MoT costs covered and most breakdown/wear and tear costs covered including things like brakes etc. Tyres are not covered but anything that goes through normal wear and tear - which will be most things on a car out of normal warranty is covered.

Edna's service on 25th is therefore paid for upfront so I don't bother to provide oil or tell them not to top up the wash wipe as it's all covered. Costs me £49 pm for 2 years. But I expect to get the brakes covered in the next couple of months.

3+ is something totally different and is bascially a discount scheme for cars out of warranty to try and keep the business ;)

I tried Mercsonly once, wouldnt go back there again.

Do a search on here for Mercsonly, it has been discussed in the past.
