MB Service Plan query

The Mercedes Benz Service Care Plan is simply a financial product, not a mechanical one.

Once you've signed-up to the plan, it's down to you to find a good and reputable dealer that you can trust. It is no different to choosing a good independent specialist.

So while I agree with all your comments, I would remove the reference to the MB Service Care Plan - it is unrelated to the quality of service at the garage, it is simply a method of paying for services.

Hi. But it must be a Mercedes dealer.

Yes of course as its a Mercedes service product.

Remembering that I worked in the motor trade for years and the scams that some dealers use and took the opertnity to have my cars serviced by an Audi specialist at 1000 miles after the Mercedes service.
Well that makes good sense.
and I am concerned as to the oil specification used ( have email dealer and as yet no reply )
Probably tossed the email into the empty Mercedes oil drum.

I’ve been looking at purchasing an MB Service Plan, but noticed the Ts and Cs state that if a car has an incomplete service history, it must be brought up to date before the plan can commence. Can anyone shed light on what *exactly* that means?

I recently bought an ‘08 W204 that has a complete MB history up until 2015. I’m assuming the terms mean I’d need a one-off MB service that encompasses anything specific to those 6 missed services to bring it up to date?

I’ve phoned two separate dealers and the main CS line, but actually getting to speak to someone to confirm is a nightmare!
It means that you’ll need to pay for a main dealer service before you can take out the service plan. The main reason being that your recovery will not start until a service has been done, so if you break down you will not be covered until it’s had a service, whether paid in full or claimed on the plan.

Hi. But it must be a Mercedes dealer.

Many prefer to use indies and not dealers, and the MB Service Care Plan is clearly not for them, regardless of whether it can work out cheaper than an indie or not.

My experience:

They generally go off the electronic service records and simply do what it says to be done at the milage/age of the car.

For example, the second service of my car was not done at MB because it also required a gearbox service and the original owner went elsewhere. He then went back to MB, on the service plan. This means that some of the service items were out of sync.

Nevertheless, MB would simply do whatever it is written for the milage/year of the car. They were like robots, and wouldn't listen to rhyme nor reason. They look at the screen and say that's all they can do, even if it means certain filters are going longer without being changed.

This was one of the reasons I stopped servicing my car at MB - they don't really care and use their brain - they just follow what's on the screen, which I guess is OK if you've always had the car serviced at MB.

YMMV - literally :p
