Hi Fyi....

Had a quote of £1077 for a 61 reg c220 cdi from local dealer ( London ), next nearest quoted £877 ( Non London ) for an A service plus the following extras -

Air and fuel filters, brake fluid plus atf oil/filter change, opted for a service plan priced at £912 for two services which covers this service plus next years B service.

The main dealer service includes 12 months mobilo cover -

Car is with dealer today will pay for the service plan later upon collection.

A thousand pound service on an car worth around £8/9K does not sound like money well spent to me. If it were me my independent would be doing the services. But the 2 services for similar money you were quoted for one is a 'no brainer' if it's a full MB service history you want.

How much would you pay for those services at an independent though?

Oil
Oil filter
Air filter
Brake fluid
Auto box fluid and filter

Plus next year’s B service and two years of breakdown cover?

£456/year for that lot doesn’t sound bad, I reckon the ATF change would be at least £200 alone? :thumb:

You forgot fuel filter, Wright Tech in Sidcup quoted me £442.97 for a Atf change on my 1995 Amg !!

Ouch, that seems a little OTT?

That's what I said, the £1K service was taking the pi$$ but the 2 service deal from an MB dealer was a 'no brainer' = good deal.

You will get 12 litres of ATF on this one so thats clean oil in the torque converter and the cooling lines flushed no doubt, not sure of what the £19 for 'Gearbox oil conditioner' is all about ? still a bit steep though.

So their labour charge is £72.00+VAT per hour, i.e. £86.40 inc. VAT? That's pretty low, for a main dealer.

I can easily see this bill going much higher with some other dealers (who charge well above £100ph).

No doubt that an MB Service Care Plan is the cheapest way to get big service items done.

With the smaller services (and definitely with repairs), you'll be much better off going to a specialist.

To be fair, when you consider that an independent garage quoted the OP £442 for an ATF change alone, £877 or even £1077 isn’t unrealistic at a main dealer for all of those service items.

My earlier post was in reply to you saying that you’d use an independent instead - not all independents offer such good value for money, and that’s regardless of how you place any value on the main dealer vs. Independent history thing, or the included breakdown cover etc :thumb:

£150+ for the 12 litres of ATF seems expensive too?

That quotation was not from a main dealer :)

When garages start throwing in breakdown cover and filling up the washer bottle and lubricating the door hinges , washing the car etc I would negotiate it out of the price or go elsewhere. If you are driving any distance you should already have breakdown cover - mine comes 'free' with my bank account, never used it (famous last words) - On a newer car that you are trying to keep in warranty ? sure.

When I see my indi he knows exactly what I want him to do (I have done the rest), again, talking about an older car here, he knows full well that I can change my own oil and filter and let him do it so I have an invoice and a stamp in my book , ATF change ? crankshaft seal on an M113 engine ? He does that stuff..after we have agreed a price.

And what is the gearbox oil conditioner at £19.08 ? Snake oil ?

I don't know how garages get away with that, it's crazy.

Mercedes C-Class AMGAMG£229£399£180

That’s my service costs for my 2013 C63 W204 not with main dealer though.

£229 for service A
£399 for service B
£180 for spark plug service
