I have a W211 E270 CDi 03 Reg.

My next service is due in 1k miles (about three weeks away).

Any recommendations for a good garage in the Cardiff area?

I have a Warranty Direct policy in place so I need to ensure that whatever service I receive is compliant with WD's (exhaustive) T&Cs.

Thanks fella.

I tend to use the indy in Bridgend (which is excellent) but it's difficult getting back to Cardiff for work without wheels.

Seems odd to me that there doesn't appear to be an indy in the Capital.

Mercedes-Benz Cardiff

I understand some of the dealers do a reduced labour price for older cars

Thanks. I'll try them again then.

I had a quote from the dealers some time ago and it was very expensive.

Basically, I just need a service that'll maintain my WD warranty. I also need some brake work done so I'm a bit nervous about engaging the dealers.

If you've got dealer level labour rate cover, then you have to have the car serviced by a dealer otherwise they won't pay the dealer rate. I'm not sure if this is a new thing - I didn't notice it last year, but it's on this years' policy.
Check the dealer's website, many of them have discounted service price offers (all the Inchcape group dealers certainly do).

You could get that done anywhere.

Thanks Rory.

I have the indy-level policy with WD so I was thinking more of indies than dealers.

I appreciate that I could go anywhere to have the brakes done but the inconvenience of not having the car for two days is a factor. A one-stop shop would be ideal.

I think there's a problem with the brakes so I suspect it might be a little bit more complicated than a pad/disk change.

I would also highly recomend M.B.specialist ltd. tel. 01656 647864. broke down on the M4 & arranged for the car to be taken to this garage. They put it on star. Diagnosed, crankshaft sensor. Fitted new one & I was on my way, 1Hr. later. Total bill for repair £160.

Absolutely agree with your comments about MB Specialist Bridgend.

Superb indy - just wish they were based in Cardiff.

Continental Cars just off Ocean Way near the docks is where I've taken both my cars in the past and I'm very happy with their work. They were recommended to me by an old boss of my wife who had taken his cars to them for a long time. They also have a few lovely older mercs as courtesy cars which make things a lot easier too.

There is also a new merc indie in Penarth just near the train station called Wales Auto Express, but I've not used them myself so can't comment on them.

Continental cars all the way.....Very good and excellent service and knowledge.

Avoid Kevin/Stuttgart in Ponty at all costs!!..

...Took my car to that clown in Pontypridd in May not long after i'd bought my E320 Diesel. I dropped it off at 8am for a water pump replacement general service and to look at my judder under braking as i had the ABS light on... asked them to call me if they found anything else they might recommend....Got a call from the mechanic at 5pm to say my car was ready!....After a conversation about what had been done i went down to have a chat and got a load of bull...They'd Changed the oil, but not the air Filter and helpfully pointed out a list of jobs with loads of stupid stuff like the interior vanity mirror missing and steering leather being worn (It's a 50% wooden wheel with no worn leather by the way) and didn't change the water pump, merely telling me it had a water leak..That's why i booked it in!! Despite requesting general service and agreeing with his comments 3 weeks before about "preferring to look at each car individually and carry out the service, and only replace parts as necessary, and advising me of anything else that may require attention".....I thought that might have included opening the air box and at least cleaning the leaves and shaking the air filter out if not replacing it! ....When i asked about the water pump and brake judder I was told i would have needed to book it in!-Doh that's what i did 3 weeks before and why i dropped it off at 8am! Basically charged me £240 for an oil change and gave me a load of abuse on the phone after i e-mailed him my concerns...

I did the Brakes and Pads myself and had a garage who look after my other now weekend car change my water Pump a week later.

Have nothing but praise for Continental after some excellent advice on buying one part myself and having it fitted by any mechanic (as they couldn't fit me in that week and i work away) and so I used them for some rear suspension bushes being replaced and they really looked after me pointing out some other stuff.

Redcastle Classics - Taffs Well

You might want to try Redcastle Classics at Taffswell, CF15 9HJ. Brian and Simon Gunney are a father and son team that are passionate about Mercedes - they look after all sorts of other interesting cars too. I've used them in the past for work on my cars (911 and C43AMG) and have always been delighted with the service and price. They have also helped with a lift (last time I got picked up in a Ferrari 355...!).

Website is Redcastle Classics :: specialist classic car restoration, sales and service

Hope that helps,

Mike
