I don't think I'll be buying a new MB anytime soon. My previous C207 was about £8500 off list and my current W205 was about £14000 off list, OK they were last models before facelifts but you could haggle. I don't particularly like having a gun pointed at my head when buying a car.

I don't know about best price unless it's best for them. I think MB just increased their profit margins and at a time when list prices are sky high. They can get away with this because demand currently exceeds supply and that has taught them that they can make more profit selling fewer cars at higher prices. Maybe other manufacturers will follow but eventually one of them will blink when demand vs supply changes again.

Salesman at MB Stockport told me last summer that this was coming. Central control of new car sales. He thought there could be wriggle room on PX, preregistration, finance etc etc. You can't keep a born hustler down.
