followiing on from another thread about a car i am looking to buy - i've got a question about warranty. ther car currently has an extended MB warranty which expires in March. can someone tell me if the warranty can be transferred to me and extended again. i guess cost wise i will need to speak to MB

as long as its a private sale and not through a trader i believe it can

The warranty should be renewable so long as the car has full Mercedes Service History and less than 100k Miles.

If there is a warranty in place when you take out the new warranty the new warranty is effective straight away, if the warranty cover lapses then there will be a 30 day period in which you can't make a claim.

Warranty Direct!

I am with warranty Direct, I have been with them for around 3 years, they are one of the few warranty companies that also cover for wear and tear, my premium is around £500 with a £50 excess for each claim and they pay main dealer labor rates up to £200 per hour. my friend has a 07 CLS55 AMG and he is also has cover with them but his premium is £700.00, another friend has a 02 CL600 V12 Bi-Turbo and his premium is £780.00, sometimes with new cover Warranty Direct will send a specialist technician to check the car over before the will accept your application, they did that with my friend with the CL600 V12 Bi Turbo, the Technician spent around 1.5 Hours checking it over, he even had a Star Computer which he plugged in, any faults found during the check would be excluded from cover unless the faults found were rectified prior to cover!

thanks - i think the MB warranty was £1700 last time the owner renewed and i think the last service may have been an independent so that might rule out the mercedes one (which may be no bad thing from a cost point of view) does anyone have any experience with after market warranty's - particularly with things such as ABC issues
cheers

My MB warranty is about £1200 (£0 excess), but they provide good levels of cover and are honest, so I am happy. Recently had a quote to put a Tier 1 warranty on my Dad's '98 S-class and that was £1700 with £0 excess.

might give them a call - the seller said it was £1700 last Year (2004 CL65)

What you must remember (or know) is that Mercedes Warranty is not actually run by Mercedes, its owned and run by an independent insurance company under the name "Mercedes Benz Warranty". also note that when dealing with any issues or disagreements the Warranty Company "Mercedes Benz Warranty" has the last say and NOT MERCEDES BENZ UK! I know because I checked this out before I purchased mine, MB Warranty wanted £1700 to Warranty my car, I ended up spending 2 weeks surfing the INTERNET reading about various warranty companies, I finally came to the conclusion that Warranty Direct was the best for me , it covered more things items that the top MB Warranty covered and for a lot less money, and they give authorizations to the garage to carry out the work very quickly, believe me I have had many, many claims such as Differential replacement, O2 sensors, belt tensioner, 2 engine mounts, gearbox bush, tie rod arm and more, my cover is also for all sensors of which there are many and they always go wrong, they can even pay your garage directly, a £50 excess per claim is nothing compared to the premiums that some of the MB Warranty Tier covers are offering, as with all warranty companies there are Terms and Conditions which you must follow religiously. dot all the i's and cross all the T's and you will be ok.

Have you ever attempted to claim with these jokers?

Heard so many horror stories!

What worries me the most about these companies is the variable quotes you can obtain.....

I like the piece of mind of the MB warranty as you can walk into the dealer and argue the toss about whether something is covered or not. With WD its a gamble, especially at London main dealer rates - will they match them? Especially when it comes to diagnosis costs!

I have used warranty direct on a few cars and know many who have as well, never had a problem with claims and even had BMW say they wouldnt have covered it.

Every time I have heard people moan about WD is for circumstances where they are asking too much. A lot of the time they moan that it needs to be looked at before agreeing to pay out and the owner wants to know they will pay before taking it to a garage, but thisnis just not fair. I can understand the owner doesn't want to take it to the main dealer and then WD say "we won't cover" but they do cover an hell of a lot.

They replaced worn front wishbones on my M3 and worn rear shocks, BMW or Mercedes would not even consider covering this.

Mercedes warranty is an insurance that excludes wear and tear, WD is also an insurance but does cover wear and tear and at around 1/3 of the price.

I know where my money would go.

I have a warranty with WD for the CL55 for £740.00 which i took out in in October.. My A/C light came on yesterday, which could mean many things ( Leaking from somewhere ) I am having it checked out next week and will be phoning WD for there contribution, reading there manual they cover everything to do with the A/C. I Will let you know how i get on.

stupid question - they dont cover parts like brake discs in 'wear and tear' do they? would be veryu surprised if they did

" Brakes servo unit, calipers, brake master cylinder, wheel cylinders, brake pedal assembly, handbrake control cables and linkages, pressure regulator and self-adjusting mechanisms.

As mentioned hope the price allowed for those front brakes :) :thumb:

The number of adverts I see with that light on are astonishing. Including the odd one where the angle has been 'just so' that the gearshift carefully obscures the light so you cannot see whether on or off.

Not sure I undersand this correctly, if the air con light is on then the air con is on, right? So why is that a problem on adverts?

When the light (called the EC light) is on, the aircon is not working properly.

Can be a host of issues, usually expensive! But sometimes cheap too.

Then you get the "needs a regas", "never noticed", "I don't use air con", "I drive with the roof open" drivel.

I should add that I have this this most often on CL's and S classes since that is what I am interested in/drive.

Just had a quick browse through atrader and I counted 4 cars before I thought I better get back to work.

They are not cheap cars to run, hence the W220's in particular waving to all before diving to the floor.

That's why i took a warranty out :thumb: :)

I have Warranty Direct - paid out on my claim - even replaced Glow plugs that Mercedes said theirs wouldn't have done.
