Right im begining to think that we don't pay enough attention on our cars so from Sunday - Saturday we will have a DIY health check.

This week : Tyre pressures !

I want you to post what car you have, size and type of alloys.

The reading should be like this:

Car: Mercedes Dream Class
MB reccomended Tyre pressure FRONT: xx PSI/BAR
MB reccomended Tyre pressure REAR: xx PSI/BAR

Before tyre pressure FRONT Drivers: xx PSI/BAR
Before tyre pressure FRONT Passangers: xx PSI/BAR
Before tyre pressure REAR Drivers: xx PSI/BAR
Before tyre pressure REAR Passangers: xxPSI/BAR

After tyre pressure FRONT Drivers: xx PSI/BAR
After tyre pressure FRONT Passangers: xx PSI/BAR
After tyre pressure REAR Drivers: xx PSI/BAR
After tyre pressure REAR Passangers: xxPSI/BAR

no Excuses! If you need to find out what your tyre pressure is please post another thread in wheels and tyres or look inside your fuel filler cap.

Mine were out as well! I already did mine this morning but forgot to write down the readings - it's what prompted me to do this DIY

that all sounds like too much work.....

I hope you all used cotton gloves from your toolkits to touch the tyres :)

My tyre pressures are checked daily, as I have a leaking valve on one tyre, it needs re-inflating almost from zero pressure every couple of days. Sadly I can't really afford to repair it right now :(

fr, 29 should be 30
fl 30
bl 35 should be 32 (left over from long fast trip loaded in france)
br 35 - as above
255/45/ZR 18 pirreli Pzero asymmetics

So what techniques / equipment do people use to check this stuff at home ? Having had to put my pressures up and down a few times over the last few weeks (as moving house and using car as a removal van!!), each different forecourt inflator that I have used has shown different readings !

I was looking at a cheap 12V inflator, but the gauge didn't seem very accurate (went from 0 - 120 psi !!) . . . so would one of those, and a decent pressure gauge do the job ?

S.

Just been out and given them all a kick, seems OK :)

I'll do it properly later.

(before) front 32 left 34 right

iirc one of the car / bike mags did a test not that long ago - the halfords own brand pencil type came up as almost perfectly accurate against a "snap-on" digital one...

MBC diy health days

C200K SportCoupe.
17" Seven spoke Evolution alloys
Michelin Pilot Sport 225/45 front and rear.

Per the petrol flap:-

N/S/F 36 psi
O/S/F 36 psi
N/S/R 39 psi
N/S/R 39 psi
These are the maximum i.e. 4 up plus luggage, this is what I prefer as I find she (she! ) handles better, honest, really!

Actual this morning was as above ;)

This afternoon about 1 psi higher due to ambient temperature and having recentley arrived home and parked up.

Forgot to mention, I have one of those digital gauges which I bought from Woolies in a sale I calibrated it at work and it is spot on :D

Maybe we need to revive this!

I am normally very good with keeping track of checking pressures etc, but today it was only until I noticed the car was handling very odd (tail happy exiting a dry roundabout at non excessive speed) that I visually checked the tyres.

Drivers rear looked a bit low - it was 14psi. Oops!

Just need to find out if it's going to stay up now or not. Seems a lot of pressure to loose considering others were all spot on, but it went up ok and no obvious nails etc.

I've been having handling probs for a while now and someone told me why last week.
The white nylon stuff was showing through on the fronts
I can't believe that a 34yr old was driving around with bald/falling apart front tyres in a 40k car. I need help.

BTW it's all sorted now and handles like a dream again. :D

Still up today, same pressure.

How did one tyre loose 16psi without having a puncture?

Possibly a leaking valve, which has now cleared since you blew air through it mate. Keep an eye on it and check valves with spittle test. ;)
