Growing up on Merseyside in the 70's and 80's I had the choice of only two teams since, in the immortal words of the great Bill Shankly "there's only two teams in the whole of Liverpool; Liverpool and Liverpool Reserves".
No harm in stating which team you support, as said don't read the thread if not interested.
Can't see the harm in discussing politics or religion either, a bit like watching telly...Don't watch what you don't like.
