i am moving to Spalding does anyone know a good mechanic who can work on a 1986 300SL , Thanks for any imformation

Might be a bit of a trek but Euro Car Care in Facet (south of Peterborough) have been MB specialists for a long time. They were pretty thorough with servicing and used genuine parts.
