Browsing (I'd say trolling, but that has rather negative connotations these days...) through another thread (on Smart car problems), I saw a post from Bolide/Nick Froome that appeared to imply that one could claim for mechanical damage on one's (comprehensive, implicitly) insurance policy. Did I misunderstand, or is this indeed covered, and if so, has anyone done it and how difficult did the insurer make it to claim?

Mechanical damages wouldn't be covered as its normally excluded under the policy terms and conditions

I guess there could be a "warranty" type policy out there which could offer mechanical damage cover, but if there is, I havent heard of it and it would be a pretty specialist product.,

Warranty direct do it and i believe most warranty firms will cover mechanical damage at a cost.

Tony.

Yes, there are warranty's that would cover Mech Damage (within certain parametres) but as I understand his question the OP was really talking about his "normal" car insurance policy
