Does anyone know of a good merc specilist near Harlow? I'm stranded near there and need to know a good place to tell the tow driver to take my ML too, and help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Not ever so local, but there is an MB specialist at Cambridge - Peter Frith, based at Milton. He is a true MB specialist and not just a 'German prestige car specialist'!

Thanks for the info! I have it sitting at Rowland Ridgwell as that's where my roadside assistance prearranged for drop off. They are going to look it over and let me know what they think. If I'm not happy with their assessment I will be calling Paul.

theres a MB dealer in Hertford which is pretty close?

So they are telling me it's a crank or camshaft sensor or its a timing chain since it is dying once it's warm. Something to do with messing with the timing sequence or something. Idk. I don't see how this explains the fuel filter housing being full of air and not diesel after it dies? Nor does it explain the air in the fuel lines?? Anyone??? Or should I just call Paul??

I'd call Paul as it seems you need an experienced MB indy. I get the feeling this place will change one thing after another until they find the fault.

I'd agree, as they look like a generic garage with no specific knowledge of one marque. I'd try Paul, as Harlow to Stortford isn't far and he can either look at it there or relay it back to his workshop.

I gave Paul a call and he said he knows the shop, and said they have a few merc guys and are stand up fellas. He said he will have a talk with them, with my permission, and make sure they are on the right track and if not we will arrange a tow to his shop. Super nice guy very knowledgeable. He told me it probably has nothing to do with the timing chain but could have something to do with either of the sensors due to the fact that if the air in the fuel caused it to die it would have sputtered and died not straight shut off. Definitely gave me some reassurance since I'm traveling on holiday and need this thing fixed for my return route.
