Chris Bangle got unmeasureable quantities of stick when he was at BMW but he was instrumental in changing the way BMW, and many other car companies, approach styling

If you want an insight in how articulate & influential the man is, and an update as to how clever the people at BMW are, check out this video

Certainly an interesting concept :)

Nice marketing.........but how many BMWs have an A surface not made from metal? (I know some have carbon fibre roofs.....but that's weight saving, not style/design)

For me, I've warmed to the 5-series styling after all these years, but I don't think history will look back at that car and praise Bangle as much as he'd likes to think.

We have a 5 Touring Sport which I think is one of the better Bangle designs. I looked at a new Z4 the other day too which is also a very nice piece of kit. People slate Bangle but as you rightly say, his influence has spread. Even good ole MB have gone from conservative styling to designs which are more challenging.

We know they took his pencil away from him after the ugly models he produced and the poor public reaction. Moved sideways some kinder folks might say. Looks to me like he is trying to find something to occupy his time and justify his salary.

I like the cars to drive, but to my eye the 6 series and the Z4 are two of the ugliest cars on the planet.

I found little if anything new in what he said. Cars have been clad over the years in pretty much everything from plywood to cloth, from steel to plastics, from fibreglass to aluminium.

Yes. Not sure that that is not a pity. Spent an hour or so looking at the new E class in various models and colours on Tuesday of this week (and the new coupe).

The new engines sound appealing but I am struggling to like the looks even a tenth as much as I liked the 211 when it came out. But I am trying.
