I cant get my hand directly up there is its the top of the tank, Sandwiched between the Tank and floor of the Car.

I've looked through the Left hand inspection hole under the seat and its bone dry.

One of the those 2 pipes go to the other tank, The large one i think. i dont know where the other go's maybe the return?

So any ideas what is actually leaking here?? I'm starting to get to my whits end, Myself and the Wife are having to go to Great Ormond street with our 18 month old son and i coulda have done without this.

Funds already over stretched because of the sodding Gearbox, which is perfect now, only tobe greated with this? The above pic is after a 124mile drive today, there no drops of fuel dripping but it's damp and the vapour smell is awful though its all outside nowt in the car She's down to 3/4s full.

I know im going to have to drop the tank just wondered if someone could give me a idea of whats going on :( Had enough really..

Thanks peeps, But its the NSR tank, not the Filler side. Here

Thanks Grober, Ive contacted my Friend at MB he says no outstanding Recals on my Vin :( but have forwarded your link anyway :)

Thankyou Grober ive forwarded that, shame it Usa, but you never know

Gav, it’s never ending is it bud. Good luck with this I hope it’s solved cheaply :)

So does anyone know what that item is on the left hand Tank , the one with the large rubber pipe attached to? i take it the thin one is the return?

And no its not my tank but just doing some homework :wallbash:

Just an idea, if the lines are dry, may be a hairline crack on the tank?

I had a hairline crack on one of my power steering lines. It was still difficult to spot the crack even with the line out of the car.

Maybe until i drop the tank we dont know :/

So i've driven the car until the fuel level is below 3/4, and the smell has 99% gone, I apears from the NSR wheel housing,

I refilled the car and there is a very strong smell of fuel when the car is sitting in the garage, so much so i had to put the car outside, i was paranoid about summit catching fire. Before i moved it out i managed to get my I phone under there and take a couple of pic's

There is Not one Drop of fuel hanging from the bottom of the Tank like last time, Tank is completely full but the stench is awful
Mercedes are not interested in honouring the 15yr warranty, Possibly down to it being a UK vehicle and having a different emission standard.

Basically it's not covered.

So i've borrowed a bore scope and with the help of a mate we will see if we can see any leaks, Tbh thinking about getting rid of this head ache and taking a hit, i can be doing without all the agg atm.

Any suggestions most welcome. :(

Ps has anyone got the Part number for a fuel tank 80lt ?

Daft question maybe but are you sure it’s the tank where the smell is coming from?

In my experience intermittent or hard to diagnose faults tend not to be what you think they’d be (if that makes sense!)

Bit left-field but could it be the fuel filter that sits in the tank?

Could it be the catalytic system, my E55K had no rear cats and absolutely stunk of petrol at times?

Might it be the fuel gauge in the tank is faulty and you’re actually overfilling it unknowingly?

100% tank/evap fault

Deffo not overfilling, Checked last night 172miles and the car returned 27mpg
Car doesnt smell below 3/4 full, Only above this amount
Car is stationary in garage for 4hrs + and the fumes become way to much, Moved it out onto the drive last night as the fumes were way to much,

No drips on ground/cardboard under car, or hanging from the underside of car
