Meet some fun

One or two at BOTG may have seen the cues and hints that I was thinking about doing exactly what my dear departed dad had told my brother a few years ago, and I did and did something glorious (as the sale of the bungalow recently completed)

It’s that SLK55 which I had seen dropping in price on AT a few weeks ago as the sellers firm had told him that they were relocating to New York, just after he’d put a 2 year Mercedes warranty on it, had it B serviced, new rear pads and discs, recently put 4 new Continental tyres on it, and had had the ATF done in 2022.
Its full MB service history, one of the later / last 55’s (Jan 2016) in 044 Designo Alanite Grey Magno (matt) paint with the two tone platinum leather interior. Its got 2 prior owners (plus it was MB Brighton’s demo)
I may come to regret getting a Matt colour, but what the heck…

On top of the now transferred 2 year MB Warranty (which is more than any garage would provide) the seller was only 6 miles from a certain Mr Wayne Gates' establishment.
Calls to Terry in advance, then crossing his card machine with plastic, he and one the other two chaps plugged it in and put it on the ramp for half an hour. Seller was more than happy for this inspection and this detour was the test drive he drove, so it was too convenient not to. An “I’d buy it” from Terry was enough for me to feel comfortable and a deal was done.
So I bought a compact two seater convertible, but with a 5.5L AMG V8 in it. Perhaps, one of the maddest cars ever made?
Terry did pick up a couple of things that need doing (including a Seat belt pre ten failure), so its booked in for warranty work at MB Southampton, although I have already been down to MBS who sorted out the sticking bonnet latch for me with their wonder spray.
My Blue E400 stays for the longer / business journeys and because I still really, really like it, albeit the SLK appears to be tolerable on a longer journey if I stay off the loud pedal which you do on the motorway tbf - less so on the local roads
From Ealing, along the M4, the crawl past Heathrow on the M25, at 50mph for 20 miles down the M3 and then at 70mph for the rest of the 68 mile journey, it averaged an indicated 39mpg !
I have a V8 and it's an AMG and it's fun (and dad would have approved!)
