Recently my old leather belt which had given many years of faithful service eventually broke.
It was like losing an old friend, Anyway I went on fleabay and bought a 'genuine leather belt'.
It lasted a fortnight -it was made on bonded leather-not mentioned in the ad.
So I started a search for a decent 100% genuine English leather belt. On Amazon, I was
surprised how many belts had quite bad reviews -price didn't seem a factor.
So if anyone can recommend a decent brown leather belt, it would be greatly
apreciated. Thanks.

Christ ! don't tell me that. My favorite leather belt will need replacing soon, the bloody thing is shrinking, I have had it 20 years and it hardly goes around me anymore. I have had to pop more holes in it, the holes are getting close to the end of it now.

If I had the receipt I would take the bloody thing back !

I agree that the quality on items such as this needs to be searched for. Alternately you could go down the 'Bobby Ball' route if you're a certain age?

Me too - but I have been told they don't make cows that big :(

Bespoke suit vendors is the only place you`ll get any kind of quality, everything is shite these days

I'm usually buying my belts at TkMaxx. The last one I bought was some 4 years ago and is still like new. If you can wait till mid June when they open or if in a hurry you can check online.

I have some leather belts I bought in M&S at least 10 years ago. I wear them frequently, so they get good use. I hope M&S quality is still what it used to be. I also have a hand-made leather belt bought on Rhodes 14 years ago and it's still going strong...a bit far to go to buy one, though :).

My "go to" one is an old tan "Milano" which are available from Amazon and the Bay of Dreams. Still available, well priced and durable.

I decided however that I too needed a new one as my black one had long since disappeared, so I bought a "Mio Marino" ratchet belt which I believe are all the rage. Very well made, good quality leather but extremely uncomfortable as the actual ratchet mechanism is a strip of plastic running along around 9" of the belt. This makes it very inflexible especially in the stomach area where the ratchet is so it now tends to live in a drawer. :(

We live and learn...

Some of the best leather belts I have came from Next at least twenty years ago. Still going strong and worn regularly.

Look for a local saddler or horse tack shop- may make you one made to measure. Otherwise local argicultural shows often have specialist exhibitors along those lines?

Look for a gun belt, if it's strong enough to support a holster, its unlikely to snap for years and years.

I bought a cracking brown woven leather belt from M&S last summer. The quality is excellent and for £20 it will give many years of service. Being woven it has a degree of stretch and much more flexibility as there of no buckle holes as such.

Mulberry make excellent belts, really beautiful to touch and look at, but they’re a little pricey. If you wear a belt every day though then you may deem it an investment.

My go to belt though is a Hugo Boss blue woven fabric belt. It has the same benefits as the M&S one, with slightly better quality of finish. I bought it to wear with shorts but it’s just as suitable for work. If only had one belt then it would be this one.

PS. It all belts from the same brand are of equal quality, it’s vest to see, feel and touch if you can, especially if it’s not a disposable purchase.

I received one as a gift a couple for years ago. IIRC it was from Next. Wearing well at the moment.

Go to a cobblers, they’ve normally got a good selection of genuine proper leather belts.

I needed a new belt and found a Calvin Klein one in a charity shop for three quid. It's a simple design, just quality black leather of decent thickness and does the job.
