Mercedes CLK 220 CDI
Hi,

I have recently purchased a Mercedes CLK 220 CDI 2005 however what I have noticed is that the max MPG I am able to get (even on long distant motorway drives) is around 35MPG with the speed averaging around 70-90 MPH..

Any suggestions on what the issue could be as I suspect that I should be getting more MPG? Or maybe I am wrong!

Thanks

What temperature does it reach?

It is around 80 or one above the 80 mark...

Temp should get upto 90deg within 10 minutes or your thermostat is dying

It's hard to speculate without knowing what kind of journeys you're really doing.
90mph is not a good speed for mpg.

I did lots of miles in my CLK270cdi, which will be similar, although your DPF will affect mpg negatively
As a guideline : Driving very steadily at 60mph should return 60mpg.
Cruise control at 70mph used to return over 50mpg for me whatever the weather.

Last thought, the OBC readings aren't always accurate. Check your figures using the tank to tank method and report those findings.

I see, well I tend to do a mixture of journeys majority being motorway miles.

Do I need to replace my DPF? Or clean it?

Not sure I want to go to a garage as they will probably want to replace it even if it could be cleaned?

Thanks

My CLK270 CDI does 34mpg +/-2 over the average 450 miles per tank. Has done for last 4 years.

The OBC will quite happily tell me it is doing 55 mpg - but it lies.

br0ke, I always log my refills on fuelly and before that sprintmonitor.
I know exactly what I get and what the OBC is telling me.
You must be doing a lot of town miles or driving very swiftly to only get 34mpg.

Have a look at your average speed as this affects MPG a lot over the distance traveled.

500 miles at avg 24mph returning 34mpg
Compared to
500 miles at avg 48mph returning 47mpg

I know these figures well from driving around the south coast area and then South London
