    Hi all,
i bought my first Merc clk 270cdi 2004 a few weeks back, and have just noticed it does smoke alot (black smoke). sometimes there is hardly any smoke other days there is more than normal.

I have used injector cleaner industrial strength that seemed to work for a day.
I have cleaned out the egr vlave as it was choked up to hell.
The next step i want to do before going down the injector path is the removal of the swirl flaps, so my question is is this an easy job to do, and how long a process is this?

Does anyone else have this problem (black smoke) and if so have they managed to cure the problem. sorry forgot to mention the car pulls like a train and seems to have no lack of power.

    Thank in advance, Martin

They do smoke (its a diesel!) but white (ish)....I give mine a blast (use the kick down, so floor it) on a long uphill bit of road to clean the crap out and using a two stroke/ Redex mix definitely seems to help and you get a smoother running engine...to boot! Black smoke doesnt sound good, give it a good thrashing up a motorway for twenty odd miles and keep using the kickdown to get the revs up and make the engine work. And fingers crossed its just a clogged up engine, exhaust system,

Almost certainly a split in the turbo pipe, mine did exactly the same.

    problem

Go to MB or MB specialist and spend 40-80 quid for the diagnose . they should give you error print outs with the code you can ask here on the forum

it could be Egr , to much air in the mixture, turbo, inter cooler split or few more
spend the money on diagnose to avoid changing good parts

i noticed today that just below the MaF sensor the is a join in the pipe. there seems to be a piece of rubber seal hanging from it. Hoping this is the cause
